Finished EMDR/Rewind 3 weeks ago, I still feel awful

...is solid advice. If you were to see a therapist for instability after a course of EMDR, they’d likely be focusing really heavily on your grounding skills, and getting grounding practices built into your everyday routine. Can you introduce some more grounding into your day to day to get you...

    New, weird symptom of hypervigilance?

Yup, 45 years of somewhat normal life, at the least functional and then wham......Just a bunch of stressful things all at once and boom, it all blew up. When exposed to unresolved trauma causes, your symptoms are naturally raised. You need a toolbox of tools like grounding to deal with it.

    PTSD from alien abductoin recently

That sounds like it’s triggering some symptoms for you. There’s many grounding techniques that’ll work for that. If you google “101 grounding techniques” there’s a very good website that my therapist uses. Not everything will work, just try out different things if you can. Any intrusive...

Help ASAP (flashbacks and intrusive resurfacing thoughts)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Touching five different textures around the room helped me once and I was also doing grounding after grounding. Can you take a break and go sit outside? Fresh air? What hobbies do you have? Sometimes just talking here helps me calm down (with people that...

Deciding whether to report old therapist

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry you have had that experience. She absolutely, completely and utterly, failed you and worked way way way outside of professional boundaries. You have already listed all the ways, but just to say what I have heard from your post. She has done: Dual relationships...

How do you let people get to know you

We all do the same thing. There is no middle ground. We either say way too much or not enough. We manage it and I think that is where we are different.

What Are You Feeling Today? Not Thinking, Rather Feeling! Can You Identify Yours?

Incredibly mad that I didn't come across my safe foods which was Heinz chicken breast in water and salt after it was thrown on the ground so I could've picked it up and washed it. The other canned chicken that's left is full of FAT and friggin' unnecessary carbs, sauces and seasoning which I'm...

What do you find helpful when inner tension comes up in therapy?

I have a bunch of different tools for that, -breathing - count it in your head four in eight out. -grounding - i am in my t's office, I am safe, today is Tuesday..... -tapping - hard to explain but its like slapping your thighs to a good song. Grounding is the first go to. Sometimes I find...

    Not happy with husband

Why do doomsday believers alienate people but keep it up? Husbands beliefs resulted in this with me. To be right at all costs- that is a heavy price to pay. I visited a church today The am service. First time in 7 years. The priest has helped me process the current events in the US and keep me...

What do you find helpful when inner tension comes up in therapy?

I think that grounding is super great, but also a lot of trauma is held in the body and for me personally jumping straight to grounding or bringing myself to my body doesn't help right away, my bodies learnt coping skill is to exit my body so the opposite can throw up big huge red alarm system...

Therapist can’t stabilize me for trauma therapy

I get dysregulated whenever the prospect of reprocessing comes up and grounding techniques don't work fantastically (and one of them is badly triggering so avoid that like the plague). My brain is terrified of retraumatisation and I agree with its assessment there due to the specific nature of...

I'm sure he could if I try and email him again. Hopefully the wellbeing team will re-refer me. I can also re-refer myself for more therapy in university in about a month, but I'm going to see what wellbeing can offer me first. As for the grounding, yes, I really hope I can integrate that more

Trying to get out of dissociation but always get sucked back in

...for managing overwhelming emotions, which can make it less necessary for our brain to keep resorting to dissociating as a way to cope. Grounding is a skill that we can build up like a muscle. Unpracticed, we typically aren’t all that great at it. Practicing mindfulness throughout the day...
