Understand AI use at MyPTSD: all AI use is explained in our AI help page. AI use is by choice here. It exists if you want it, but does nothing unless you choose to use it.
Welcome to the forum:)
I’m not sure if they’ll have the type of info you’re looking for, partly because they’re based in Australia. But Pheonix is a peak body here for ptsd research soecialising in first responders. They do quite a bit of research and have quite a lot of info & resources for...
Welcome to the forum - glad you found us ☺️
PTSD is typically cyclical. Peaks and troughs. Do you track your symptoms? I use the VA’s PTSD Coach app (I also use a separate app to track my mood). It’s a quick once-a-month check in where I can compare how my ptsd symptoms are tracking compared to...
This sounds like a really good decision to make on your own behalf. Particularly knowing how your relationship with him has been in recent times.
With setting boundaries, in addition to be being clear about what our limit is (for example: your limit here is questions about your relationship or...

@KA60 - if you think a member has contravened the forum’s rules, use the Report function and let staff take care of it.
Alternatively, if you simply don’t like what they’re posting, use the Ignore function.
Are you working with a qualified trauma therapist?
It’s unethical for a therapist to be using something like EMDR to help retrieve repressed memories given the unreliability of memories that are ‘retrieved’ through that sort of therapy. Good chance of it doing more (unnecessary, avoidable) long...
Welcome to the forum:)
Super common in these parts! There’s a stack of threads in the Social forum that members use to dip their toe into connecting in ways that are not too overwhelming:)
Mod note:
@Harorudo - I’ve removed the TW from your post. No need for them here - every thread contains potential triggers.
You can read more about that in the Community Constitution.
Doesn’t sound strange at all - not feeling like a zombie can be amazing, even if it’s sadness or grief that breaks through, it’s something! And it’s signalling that there’s movement in your system away from complete shutdown, which is something to be optimistic about. Major depression episodes...
This is the work, yeah? I feel a lot like I’m telling you something you already know, but experiencing yourself rebuild trust after this will be a big deal. The brain has been triggered into “this is unsafe” territory, and the job is to work through that, and establish “nope, actually we’re all...
I’ve definitely experienced the physical exhaustion in a big way in the past.
It’s counterintuitive, and incredibly hard, but for me the science that promotes physical activity as the way out of the exhaustion was on point. The less I did each day, the more exhausted I got.
Which is...
Kicking off your post with some casual racism is remarkable in its dysfunction and aggression. Not sure it was warranted.
But it speaks to your lack of insight and the defence mechanisms you’re using to perpetuate your own victimhood.
Free tip - exaggeration here is counterproductive. People...
Not at all - you’ve got inherent motivation to do a great job.
But you’ll need good insight (tracking how you’re coping day to day, week to week) and you’ll need to be disciplined about your self care routines and your boundaries.
Welcome to the forum - glad you found us ☺️
If it helps at all - this is really normal for folks on this forum! A helpful place to dip your toe in is the Social Forum, which has a lot of opportunities to get involved in conversations really briefly, with minimal exposure or vulnerability.
Yeah. And I’m sorry you’re in that program because doing ECT is stressful.
But given how much you’re struggling, it would be the path I’d go down if other alternatives like TMS or ketamine aren’t available or haven’t been helpful for you.
If you make an assessment about where you are right now - like, objectively, what am I doing during the day, what did I do yesterday - can you identify small goals you can start to add each day?
Like, when I’m badly depressed, getting out of bed an having a shower is an achievement. Because I...
That’s a lot! I love that you’re holding boundaries for yourself with your bio mum.
Hope that maybe you can find some more ways to be gentle with yourself through this period. What happened to your brother is tragic and unfair for him - but it’s not a problem you have to solve. Your single...
That’s such a difficult position to be in. Makes sense that you’re feeling pretty overwhelmed.
Agree with the others - self care on overdrive. And give yourself permission in advance to just walk out if things get too much. Doesn’t have to be ‘walk out and don’t come back’ so much as just...
Breakthrough? Not really. More like very slow progress by chipping away at it.
It’s a self-preservation instinct, and got a bunch of shame attached to it, which makes it one of those things that’s particularly hard to shift. So, it does shift, but slowly, over time.
It’s helpful to me to not...

I haven’t experienced it to that extreme, but to a degree some of that is familiar.
I’m currently dealing with insomnia, which is its own kind of hell. But I did deal with hypersomnolence for a long time sleeping around 16-18 hours a day, which was pretty damn crippling. Zero energy even when...
It can definitely be a very slow process. It will get better - but yep, it tends to do the “gets worse before it gets better” thing. Sorry that’s where you’re at right now, because it’s a shit place to be.
Be open with your T about how you’re coping, and what ‘not coping’ looks like for you...
