I am not sure if this board is right for that kind of question or if it is better to ask at a marriage board.
My husband has some stressful memories (not sure exactly about what, he does not discuss it with me, he is a vet). He does not think about them all day long but when he is tired he...
I just made a decision... which is: spend much less time worrying + analyzing hubby...
I used to be a macho, tomboy kind of girl and think inside I still am. My decision is like this: Hubby is afraid of crowds, I will accept the fact and go places without him and may be one day he won't be...
Thanks very much for your answers :)
He has been criticizing my coffee before. After he had had a bad night he sometimes just seems to seek something to complain about like the coffee, just the jam he wanted not being in the fridge, the house not being up to his OCD standards (we have a...
Was my reaction okay?
I felt like "both of us are pretty crazy and bad" or is it just normal life (as the wife of a Vet, or life in general) sometimes is like that? Both hubby and wife acting like jerks.
Well, I have been in high spirits for a view days. Just happy because my husband is being the lovely guy that he is, a great daddy and does so many things to show me he loves me (his love language being acts of service). I vowed that I would not complain about his fear of crowds / him not taking...
Yes, it does... because if something stresses my husband he starts being OCD. Let me give an example: There is a bang, my husband jumps up and starts cleaning something, he hates going to sleep so before he goes to sleep he needs to clean and order things.
Some of his OCD is also safety...
By the way, I just found a scientific paper called "High prevalence of obsessive compulsive disorder among posttraumatic stress disorder patients" by Nitsa Nacash, Leah Fostick and Joseph Zohar, it says that 41% of those diagnosed with combat or terror related PTSD also suffer from OCD.
Now I...
I have been searching for ressource on combat OCD but my search has been fruitless so far. When I google it I just find tips on combating civy OCD.
I asked the equivalent of the central VA hospital in our country and they did not have any information :( :( :( They had information on PTSD, which...
I don't know, English is not my native language and my vocabulary is limited. May be "spouses/friends/family". In my native language there is a word that means "kin" or "kinsmen / kinswomen" and means every family member as well as friends.I am not sure if an "equivalent" exists and the word...
A questions for both the "supporters" and the Vets and of course the non-Vets. Do you, too, sometimes feel that the word "supporter" or carer is "odd"? I like the word wife better.
Do you understand what I want to say? I cannot really put my feelings into words.
You got me wrong. I did not want to say IBS is only in your head. I understand that it is real and in case of my husband also causes him a lot of pain (and I am currently googeling on more info). I am sorry that he has to go through this and that I cannot do more to help.
just answered the...
To be honest I sometimes tell hubby that it is all in his head.
For example his doctor suggested he should take an antidepressant because it would help him sleeping / with nightmares / lighten up a bit... but he grew afraid that it would "knock him out" and some burgler would invade our home...
You mean to say he does not really have belly trouble just feels like it?
My husband thinks he really does have diarrhea but it does not come out because he has constipation at the same time. I think at least the constipation is real.
When it is bad he takes a laxative so he can get the...
Thanks for the tipps. There seems to a link between PTSD and IBS.
Hubby likes hot baths, there has not been much time for it lately. I am going to ask him if he wants to have a bath next weekend + going to buy some herbs.
*sigh* While I could not agree more it feels pretty pointless to try to make my husband adopt a healthy lifestyle. I am lucky: He does work out - not for his health, but because he likes it. Hubby says I should count my blessings because in comparison to other Vets he is a healthnut.
@ghotiff: I am not sure if I really understand your comment because I am not sure if I know what a "body memory" is.
@The Albatross: Unfortunately my hubby does not really care about healthy nutrition. If you place something healthy in front of him he does usually eat it.
If he does not I have...
@SweetLullaby: Thanks a lot. I know about hidden sugar. We grow much of our own food (mostly because we want to safe money)... but my husband always manages to find energy drinks, sugary pops and cafeeinated chocolate which is his biggest vice.
I absolutely hate the caffeinated stuff and would...
Hi,
I started another thread about my husband having IBS but not wanting to follow a healthy diet today and @Al_Lurker told me many of you have digestive problems (which are may be stress related). I did some reading.
Sorry for creating another thread... but it is a different topic because...
@Springer80: sounds like a great idea. *snicker*
@ghotiff: He often feels like he is going to have diarrhea, rushes to the toilet... but actually has constipation. After he has just been to the toilet he often says "Oh, sorry, I think I need to go again", he says he never feels really empty.
He...
Yes, unfortunately he eats a lot of sugar (and caffeine).
He does eat healthy food if you place it in front of him.... but of course I can not and do not accompany him 24/7. He says he "just does not have the time" or "forgets" about eating healthy and needs the energy drink because he is...
