Hi @FridayJones
Thanks for your response.
I'm just wanting to make sure I understand your post, as I've read it.
We were monogamous (this IS fact). We dated/friends/buddies/someone special/I really don't care what it's called...until now.
He's "breaking up" so he doesn't have the 'blame' or...
Hi everyone. @KwanYingirl
Yoga and meditation have revolutionized my life the past year, so I can totally see that. It's helped me so much through these ups and downs, plus other personal matters (anxiety & depression). I have yet to try reiki, though I have friends that are certified to lead...
For those of you that have read my story, thank you for giving me support and advice as one of the many newcomers here. Right now I feel I need the most support/insight/guidance in quite some time.
For those needing the sparknotes...
I love a dear friend of mine. Former Iraq combat vet (special...
@Simply Simon you hit it on the nose. He definitely hasn't been a hard drug user prior to this. I mean maybe weed yeons ago, back in college but you got the idea. Which is why I expressed my concern.
I've seen my own friends suffer addiction when we were younger (some to the point of death or...
@FridayJones
THANK YOU. Your description of him sitting "calm and collected" while relishing in adrenaline definitely sums it up.
Yeah, over the past year he was doing more fitness, but late this summer he hit a low when a business venture fell through. He's made small gains since Aka having a...
@Solara @KwanYingirl
Thank you. His stresses haven't pushed me away, and I don't have a plan to leave right now. I solely am concerned as I've never seen this side before. The PTSD rearing it's head? Oh yes, but not like this. It hurts me to see him trying to numb or get 'that rush'. I feel...
He initiated conversation yesterday and we finally met up. It was so wonderful to catch up, I was so thankful. I could tell he had missed me. Part of me feels he was worried I was going to reject seeing him because he's been fairly MIA, so was relieved, greeted me with a warm hug when I...
@Chava There's a tea I drink called Persephone's blend by a local shop where I live. It's good for stress, cleansing the system from overindulgence, and the liver!
Steep for 5-10mins and serve with local harvested honey and or pollen granules. It contains dandelion root, burdock root, Oregon...
Did you reach out and express yourself--wish him a Merry Christmas? You need to be yourself in this situation. Want to wish him Happy New Year? Do it!
Friend or lover or both, he isn't going to want you to walk on eggshells around him. This is something I've learned over the past years with my...
@adriftatsea thank you for summing up my life the past month! I cant get over how helpful this forum is, and for so many!
@Glass Hill you're doing the right thing. If you're interested in a non conventional book that may bring you helpful thought and wisdom, Id recommend reading Fierce...
Well pleasant Christmas surprise this morning-- him reaching out and saying "Merry Christmas <Busybee>!"
I had every intention of getting up, but literally fell back asleep a little while longer with a smile on my face and in my heart.
He didn't say anything else today, but I replied back...
Thank you so much. @InlovewithaPTSDvet Merry Christmas to you as well. And I agree, we need to not lose ourselves in this process of supporting. I plan to reach out to him later today...
All the best !
@Sweetpea76 All valid points. Would you suggest reaching out/wishing him good time with the fam damnily when he's potentially stressed out & MIA? Or wait?
@InlovewithaPTSDvet
Thank you so much. This gives me much more insight. Especially about the "thank you's" being much bigger. :) Your holiday sounds like it should be fun. Enjoy it!
Yeah when he was really stressed this summer, when a business venture nose dived I made time for us to go...
Alright, from what I've gathered on countless threads on here, the my combatptsd forum, countless military/vet spouse blogs, and other misc. help resources...the holidays are rough for everyone, but particularly if you're dealing with PTSD. Is this true for you? Do you find yourself dealing with...
Thank you!
The allegory use is being taken too literally. I simply meant the symbolism to represent PSTD, 'the beast', as one of the many layers of my loved one. On MyCombatPTSD threads veterans refer to it in this manner too. So at times it masks him, yet I still know he's there underneath it...
In reference to the title of my thread I used it as an allegory. It's a story most people are familiar with, seemed suiting.
Thank you for the insight everyone. I find all the information valuable. It's taken me several weeks to come around and just put this out on the table. I appreciate the...
This is my first time posting, but believe me I've read a plethora of the personal stories on here. Like many it brought an immense relief finding this forum, I want to personally thank you for sharing!
I am the friend & supporter of a great, respectable man who suffers from combat PTSD.
So...
