I'm off a year+ of fake hormones that worked badly and increased my need for pain meds. And now the regular pain meds I take for my back are giving me massive headaches. I wake up with a headache almost every day. I'm cutting back. The only other option at the clinic now is laparoscopic surgery...and more pain and more meds...I'm not saying that option is out, but I feel so beat up right now. I want to get off my small dose of pain meds and just clean out my body....and see if, in the process, the hormone stuff and pain might simmer down some too.

I stressed my liver A LOT through years of major drinking, smoking, starving, and now pills. So to add new pills, I think I've over-stressed my liver, which supposedly makes everything worse but the docs don't tell us this. Anyway, I don't want recipes. I'm into combining whole foods in any creative way and I love juicing. I have turmeric and ashwagandha (well researched for my needs) and love adding ginger to my fresh juice. What fruits, veggies, other herbs, might specifically help detox or restore liver function? Thanks for any tips. I really want to treat my body to real ingredients and see how far it can heal itself. If nothing else, feel a little better for a while before going in for any surgery. I just can't right now. Too unstable and pained.:depressed:

Regret i'm not going to work tomorrow because I feel like I've been stabbed in the eyes and I'm about to puke. Pain and nausea all over...because I took one painkiller that used to help. Now my body is saying NO! I need to relieve my liver and find a different route.

The best addition is drinking lots of water with lemon with it. In a detox, my goal is to keep drinking enough so my urine is always clear.

My person thinking is that with a detox it's more about what you cut out, rather than what you put in. For me the best diet is a raw and live diet (which for a week I also make nut free).

If you you-tube "raw and live" you can get lots of great recipes. This diet is quite extreme compared to the norm and so it's definitely not for everybody, but it certainly has lots of great ideas for what I consider really healthy dishes.

If you do this diet as an extreme jump from your current diet, you will get a "healing crisis" where you feel sick as your body adjusts, so for most people slowly moving towards it is a better plan.

I recommend that you watch 'Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead' which is a documentary about a man's efforts to turn his health around via juicing. People in the film who accepted the challenge of juicing felt so much better and alleviated many health issues in just 10 days. Pretty amazing.

I also recommend watching 'Hungry For Change,' another documentary about eating healthy foods. I found a lot of interesting information about foods and the way our bodies react to them in general. Cool stuff I never knew in there; like how chia seeds help drawn out toxins from our bodies, or how sugar is physically addicting. Even why we get hungry at the food courts in our shopping malls, even if we just ate.

I found both on Netflix awhile not, I'm not sure if they're still on there but I'd imagine with the New Year coming up there will be a lot of 'healthy' shows back on there since most people make resolutions about this time of year. Personally I find that eating healthy foods and getting enough rest help me to feel better, even when it is tough because of ptsd. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed, and the last thing that I feel like doing is chopping up veggies or whatnot. But I know if I eat unhealthy stuff or flake on exercise...that's only going to make me feel worse.

@Chava There's a tea I drink called Persephone's blend by a local shop where I live. It's good for stress, cleansing the system from overindulgence, and the liver!

Steep for 5-10mins and serve with local harvested honey and or pollen granules. It contains dandelion root, burdock root, Oregon grape root, yellow dock root, eleuthero root, & milk thistle seed!

I haven't tried it extensively but look into Ayurveda? :)

Exercise as much as you're able, take hot baths with Epson salts, drink lots and lots of water - enough to keep your pee clear or nearly clear. I also take a good multivitamin. Make sure any vitamin you take is Dead Link Removed otherwise you have no idea what you're paying for or getting. If it doesn't say on the bottle that it's USP verified, it's not.

Herbs I listed above are helping me with stress...I notice that. Just feel less coo-coo over lots of difficult things. So I do hope that helps me cut out the e-cigs because they are giving me chronic headaches. Thanks for the other ideas.

I am going to do more exercise to help with the hormone stuff. Had to check some pain stuff with a new doc, still not sure what's up, but I seem okay to do non-strenuous or joint-slamming exercise...walks, Pilates with right support, biking, etc.
