In view of the surge of mass anxiety throughout America (in light of a specific recent political event) I wanted to offer the following article for those of us with PTSD to pause and consider that some of the triggering from the post election is validated by quite a few therapist.

Post Election Stress Disorder in Women Link Removed

Among the article there exist many helpful hints for assistance for those women or our friends that have been triggered by the recent current events. Solid references for therapist for further support is respectfully furnished by the magazine.

This piece as well holds some interesting research insofar as to some of those considerations as to why some of America's Women may react in anxiety. Perhaps the article's additional statistics (besides those offered below) may shed some light for those in other countries whom perhaps ponder at some of the recent reactions within the USA.

The following is an smaller excerpt from the link if you are interested:
"
  • Women more often experience Link Removed events likely to lead to the development of PTSD (such as sexual violence, assault, and abuse) than men
  • Rape within Link Removed was legal until the mid-1970s
  • A whopping 96% of sexually objectifying imagery is of women’s bodies
  • Only 20% of political offices are occupied by women
  • Only 4.4% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women " by Jennifer Sweeton Psy.D Nov.12, 2016 Link Removed
Perhaps this thread can remain open without violating what our fine Board Leader has requested. We, as women may not need to talk about post election insofar as the candidates but perhaps we may need to talk about some of those things within the linked article.

For many of us...the anxiety is real. Let me know what you feel about the piece if you have the time to read it. Thanks for listening.

My therapist asked me about this thing. I am unique in that I'm used to being treated in the very way that you know who talked about. I told her that. From the time I started working when I was 16, I had supervisors and coworkers that treated me like I was eye candy and that's it. My first boss within a week of my job took me to a party at a lake and got me drunk. I don't think anything happened but that's not the point. I was 16. He was my boss.
My next job my supervisors made lewd comments on a routine basis. I've only had two bosses until recently that didn't. So for me that became the norm. I didn't realize that that wasn't ok until I had kids of my own but one thing with my issues I realize is that.. I don't treat myself the way I treat other people. I don't know how.

That said...I didn't react like alot of women and it's because of that. For me... It's just the way it is. Right wrong or indifferent. I wish it wasn't that way but it is.

My therapist said that she went through three boxes of tissues over women who did feel triggered by this whole thing. I'm not sure how to handle it. How DO I handle it if somebody comes to me?

@Zoogal Thank you for the insight from you and your therapist. It means a lot to me to hear your share. Did you see the inside statistics on women having PTSD higher than men? Were you surprised?

@Zoogal Thank you for the insight from you and your therapist. It means a lot t...
I've seen it before and no. Actually I'm not. All three of my kids were effected by my second marriage. Of the three my middle daughter was the least. My oldest daughter won't talk about it much and my son won't talk about it at all. What I wonder is how many men go unreported.

But back to the subject...

Most of the stuff I dealt with was before sexual harassment in the workplace became a huge issue. Now it's a lawsuit in the making so people as a whole don't do it as often ( thank God) .

But..we now deal with a climate where that kind of stuff is everywhere in the culture. Boys need to be raised when they are young on up how to treat girls. Thing is, most see girls being used in the entertainment industry, in our cases not treated well, and alot of time see nothing else. They go out into the world not knowing what they are SUPPOSED to do.
Girls, the same thing. Like me, they think that's the norm alot of the time. Hopefully it's changing.

As far as this triggering people. .I understand. There's things that trigger me that doesn't trigger others ( mindful yoga anyone?) And vice versa.
