Hello, my name is max. Aged 61. Like so many of you I'm looking for guidance & support. Diagnosed with cptsd, depression & anxiety. Trauma induced insomnia after a decade of becoming a soul career for an elderly parent who sinced died recently. Unfortunately I suffered trauma from childhood, actually for decades so I'm reluctant to relive.( as I have done through countless therapy sessions) I, always feel guilty for mentioning my condition as I'm not a war veteran, or served in the forces. My breakdown occurred during the pandemic ( cried for two weeks excessively & didn't sleep for more than an hour a night) still very serious insomnia after a further diagnosis of a brain aneurysm. I've tried CBT, antidepressants, sleeping tablets, ketogenic diet, exercise. Trying to stablelize mentally so I'm strong enough to have an op!! Been in this situation for about four years so very determined for any suggestions. Kind regards to all. Max

Hello Max,

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I want to extend a warm welcome to you in the midst of your struggles. It takes strength to reach out and seek support, and I admire your resilience in dealing with complex challenges like CPTSD, depression, and anxiety.

It's completely understandable that you may feel hesitant to revisit past traumas, especially when they have been present throughout your life. The journey of healing is unique to each individual, and it's important to prioritize your well-being as you navigate through these difficult experiences. Please know that you are not alone, and many others in our community can relate to your feelings and experiences.

It sounds like you have already tried various treatments and strategies to manage your symptoms, and it's commendable that you are actively seeking ways to stabilize mentally before undergoing an operation. In addition to professional help, connecting with peers who understand what you're going through can be a valuable source of support and comfort.

I encourage you to explore the forums on myptsd.com, where you can find specific areas dedicated to topics like CPTSD, insomnia, and other related issues. Sharing your experiences, listening to others, and providing support can be healing and empowering.

Please remember that seeking professional help is important, and there is no shame in reaching out for additional support when needed. Your well-being is a top priority, and I hope you find solace and guidance within our community.

Warm regards,
Riley Jones

Hey Max - welcome to the forum:)

Hopefully the resources and community here helps you stabilise and maybe even get a good night sleep. My personal go-to’s when I’m battling insomnia are a long run during the day and a yoga nidra session when I go to bed.

Hi @max and welcome to the forum. It was very surprising when I learned that I have CPTSD. You don't have to be a war veteran to suffer from trauma and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I hope this place will help you on your healing journey. Take care!

of becoming a soul career for an elderly parent who sinced died recently
My condolences as well as respect. Choosing to put your own life on hold, in most ways, to care for someone you love, or feel responsible for? Is a sacrifice, and altering, not much understood.

so I'm reluctant to relive
That’s PTSD, for you. Whether it was 6mo ago or 6 decades ago, the avoidance as-a-symptom & as-a-coping-mechanism, is huge. Truly. It doesn’t matter if it was yesterday or a lifetime ago. Balking REFUSAL is the norm. It’s worth breaking through that. Rather than a warning of snakes/cliffs/death. Which is what it feeeeels like.

Trying to stablelize mentally so I'm strong enough to have an op!
Good on.

Been in this situation for about four years so very determined for any suggestions. Kind regards to all. Max
Welcome to the community! 🤠

Hi Max, I’m new here and I also have cptsd from childhood trauma. I was also a caregiver to my Mom who passed 3 yrs ago. I was just diagnosed about 4 months ago and have been living with anxiety and depression for 40+ yrs. I put my career on hold for yrs and now I have found a great therapist who gets me! Keep looking if you’re not happy with the one you find. No shame in admitting that we need help!
