New York Here We Come!

FYI: The Statue of Liberty will be closed for a year starting this month (for maintenance and building of a new stairway). Don't know if you all were planning on visiting but figured I would pass along the info and save you the trip if you were.

You can get a lovely view of the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry. The terminal is at the at the southern tip end of Manhattan ( NYC Island) and goes to St. Georges, Staten Island. Nice afternoon crossing, light dinner at St. Georges, ride back as sunset falls.

Don't forget hats, gloves, and warm coats. Cluck-cluck-cluck can't seem to stop that. Once a Mom even an adoptive Mom always a Mom.

Is the Ground Zero Museum open to the public yet? Hubs and I saw a documentary on it, and it looked like something we'd both like to see if/ when we ever get our butts out east.

I don't think it is open to the public yet. I could be wrong but I think we would have seen more about it on the TV commerating the tenth anniversary of Sept 11.

I also mourn for the people who died that day from all over the world and all the first responders.

Here's something to chew on. The Maximum Occupancy of both towers at that time of day should have been 46,000 people including the subway and the restaurants. The mayor asked the Army for 36,000 body bags. About 3,000 people died. Do the math...we are looking at 43,000 miracles. People were sick or late. Some had schedualled meetings and seminars uptown. Some were on vacation, some on business trips. The subway driver coming over the bridge saw a plane hit and refused to take his train down there- that's about 3,000 people on incoming trains that did not go there.

Pray for peace of soul for those who are left behind.......

That sounds like a plan....

There's so much in NYC. Ground Zero is- don't think you can describe it, it's a feeling I guess. I guess it depends on what one wishes to see there- hee- possibly our statue wouldn't be the main attraction for people who don't have the symbolism tugging at them huh? She is kind of amazing, though. Yes- gosh it gets chilly out there on the water and on a windy day in the fall just in the city, good to be prepared there! You see these beautifully dressed women looking absolutely chic and wonderful and all I can think is 'Oh my, aren't they COLD?'.

I have been terribly, terribly remiss planning- haven't been able to get past the next morning with Dad this last 2 weeks. He's made it to the next one-my nerves haven't! :) It's like a couple inches on the map, not giving up hope. Gosh, I hope it's a lovely, fulfilling holiday for both of you regardless of who-what-when-where-how and weather here.

ALL the best,

Anni

Just really enjoy yourselves and BE tourists, it's just so fun!

Ummm, my husband read manuals, Nicolette, I have never seen anyone actually do that so I am glad I'm not alone in the "what the ????" as you watch your hunny do that and he will KNOW how use the camera ;)

It does pay off!

Can't wait to see the pictures :)

Is this one of those anomolies... like husbands that ask for directions?

Now here's what I really want to know: Does Anthony fix stuff? I'm married to the best guy on the planet. If you're a trauma victim, or trapped in a fire, or need extracation from a crashed vehicle. But for the love of God, don't ask him to fix anything. It goes with that "doesn't read directions, lets just wing it" mentality, lol!

Yep, pack the warm stuff, guys. It's 50F in Chicago right now, and colder as soon as the sun goes down. What's on your "must see" list for New York?

Yes, I am a very practicable person... I am extremely mechanical minded.

Some things I also don't touch, as some things really do need an expert to perform work on them, not a handyman or such.
