Any NYC questions that come up as the date gets closer you can write me. Twenty years of showing people around has just been great fun. We don't need to be with you all the time. You might like to go up the Empire State Building on your own or be alone at ground zero. We can wait and swing by when you call for us. I'll give you my cell to call my husband with on his cell. This method works well especially when you just want is to be together any old day and stay in your jammies. As Extra-special Travelers ("ET phone home"), relaxation is sometimes something travelers need to actually plan into their schedual.

Yup, It is a long long trip. Jet lag coming this way is a tough one. We usually give ourselves two days to sleep when we need, then set the alarm clock or wake up call for a reasonable morning hour to wake up. Good luck with that.

I don't have any real issue with Jet Lag... we have set this walk as an all in one meeting for everyone in the US who wants to meet us from the forum.

We are only having one dinner with a specific couple who are long time pen pals with Nicolette, who live in New York. Otherwise, everyone else will be at a singular event, and if all goes well, then we're happy to extend the day into dinner, as going through Central Park for a day is something we want to do... so to mix good company with it only makes it all the better.

We plan to use the subway to get around everywhere that we need, as well as taxi's for anything close... then good old walking to really see the city.

We're both quite fit and healthy for walking around all day, every day.

Got it. You want to be as free as a breeze to see what you want to see, when you want to go wherever. We will come for the Central Park meet up.

There are disposable cell phones that are not too expensive. They let each of you see something different or lets Nicholette stay in bed for the odd overtired moment. It is a good way to stay in touch with each other. NYC can be crowded. Just a thought.( One of my triggers is being lost so maybe this doesn't apply to you)

Sincerely,
Bess

In line with what we do in Melbourne, we thought a walk through Central Park and coffee/lunch afterwards would be a good idea. You can meet us for either or both. If anyone can recommend a good place to go for coffee/lunch in or around the park it will be appreciated.

.

I can recommend the cafeteria at the Natural History Museum. It is a large hospitable place, bathrooms are near by. Service is pick your own as you travel down with your tray or order something hot. It will seem expensive but there are very few restaurants or coffee shops on the East or West Side of Central Park. If people want to stay on, there is so much to see.

There is an entry charge. I give $0.25, a quarter and the person at the desk gives me the pin of the day.

If you want to read up on the park, its designer was Fredrick Law Olmstead.
After this last severe Nor'easter, We are told that there are hundreds of tree branches and trees down. By your Nov. date the clean up work in the park should be done,....I hope.

I would love to meet. I live about 30 miles north of Manhattan in Westchester County, it would be so perfect; although I would go much further to spend time with others who can relate. Please Keep me up to date on your plans. Are service poodles invited?

All are welcome Stormy... If they're allowed in the park, then yes. I am not aware of Central Park rules.

Hey Bess,

We did think about a disposable phone, but one of the stresses we want to get away from is phones, computers, etc... so we likely won't worry about it. We want to disconnect from the world for a week or two, enjoy another culture and meeting good people on our way.

We plan on doing lots of walking and train travel, just really exploring NYC, its culture, food, people, etc... We tend to be like that. Our last trip to Singapore, we walked nearly the entire city, even though the Metro was there, we used that as well, but we walked a lot of it to see things. We Metro to get at a point we want, then we walk lots.

We can eat anywhere for dinner... we don't really care, as long as they have good food and selection, especially as American prices are much cheaper than Australian for food and drink. What you call expensive, we would likely call normal. A standard dinner for two out here at a average restaurant would cost $100 - $150. A really nice restaurant, $150 - $300... just for two people. Eating out here is an expensive habit...

If you're up for Greek food and some travel at some point, two blocks (up or down, I can never remember) from Grand Central is a place called "Uncle Nicks". It's got absolutely amazing food. The last time I was there four of us ate - three different appetizers and four full dinners with some wine tossed in for $75. Very nice place too in my opinion.
