Hi all,

My partner has problems sleeping. Part of the problem is the pain or numbness in his leg since the car accident that caused the PTSD. The other problem is that he has nightmares and he is hypervigilent. He says he can only really rest once everyone else in the house is awake and safe.

He refuses anti-depressants and sleep medication but may be open to herbal medication or naturpathy. Has anyone been successful with a problem like this, with "natural medicine"? (he is in therapy).

Thanks,

There's a thread on here about aroma therapy - It's called ' Simple Aroma Therapy to Calm Mind and Body. The link is below.

I had a friend who swears by a natural sleep aid, called Tranquil Sleep. She has fibromyalgia so has a lot of pain at night, she takes a half pill and it knocks her out.

I take melatonin several nights a week, I'm a nurse who currently works night shift. I have used it for a few years, before I started it, I did a lot of research on dosing. The best evidence I found says to start at 0.3mg as higher doses are reported to be less effective and can cause a hangover effect.

I have a prescription for lorazepam for anxiety or sleep and that works just ok, not any better than melatonin. I don't like to use it on sleep too often because I only get a limited amount of it since it's a controlled medication.I recently picked up some Valerian to see if that helps and am strongly considering going to my doctor to see about getting a prescription for trazadone. Working night shifts is making my PTSD and depression worse and I am counting down the nights until I switch to a day position in a few months.

Also, being in pain and trying to get restful sleep is difficult and I hope he is working with his doctor to get that adequately treated.
