HELP! Today's therapy session went horribly wrong. Panic during a ‘relaxation’ exercise??

That's interesting as I have not been told what type of therapist is dealing with me, just one who has "experience" of dealing with vets suffering with PTSD. I'm thinking it's time for an in depth look at this gentleman. (I'll be back!)

Only fools rush in where angels fear to tread!

Not likely too but, as the group is vet heavy, it seems reasonable that a sensible group leader would have some military experience/knowledge. This "gentleman" (Generation Y, Millennials) was paper qualifications heavy but lacking in life skills. That doesn't tend to sit well with some vets.

Only fools rush in where angels fear to tread!

Met a "prospective social group leader" today. Young guy, full of new outside activities. (Spoiler) It kinda didn't go well. After his potted history (nowt impressive or even noteworthy), the suggestions for activities started. 1. Wellness walks. Couple of miles. No can do as my legs are FUBAR...

HELP! Today's therapy session went horribly wrong. Panic during a ‘relaxation’ exercise??

Thank you for your reply Wendell_r. I've always worked on the notion that feedback and Intel about me is a good thing as it helps them who would help me. Problem is occasionally some won't react positively and a few take it as criticism. When they do that, I explain, as said, why I give...

HELP! Today's therapy session went horribly wrong. Panic during a ‘relaxation’ exercise??

Hi ellzeena Firstly, I'm UK based. History. Late 1980's, trying to stop ethnic cleansing, 7 days a week, non stop for 6 months with all the 5h1t that went with doing that. While the West's police ( UN / NATO / US / Europe) and their bastard politicians looked on. Nest? Now physically...

Thanks for your reply. Things are starting to make sense now.

HELP! Today's therapy session went horribly wrong. Panic during a ‘relaxation’ exercise??

. Thank you for your reply sideways, calmed me down a lot. It also helps knowing when the fuse blew, that helped to explain the memory wipe I experienced. Ordinarily, if I need to calm down, I listen to music and once wrapped up by the emotion in that music, I have a nap, awaking very calm. UK...

HELP! Today's therapy session went horribly wrong. Panic during a ‘relaxation’ exercise??

Night time, and I can't fight off my demons anymore. It goes like this. Combat exposed me to horrific things. After 30 years plus of coping, BANG! They're back, in glorious color.. The flashbacks I can cope with but the nightmares are not nice. Not nice at all. I see, feel, smell, hear, and...

Would you relocate if it means having more options for treatment?

UK based. We would love to relocate to somewhere in the world where both our physical needs and my PTSD would receive effective treatment. Somewhere where their government isn't as corrupt as ours is. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen as other countries are demanding too much money for...

    What now??

Similar story. Service brat, RAF then Army. Got kicked out. One of them UK Strategic Defense Review (aka cost cutting foul ups). I was well angry and, more truthfully, WELL HAPPY! Happy as in what I was seeing (and living) was everything falling to rat 5h1t level. Too many "not our business"...

Desperation vs Delight… in finding someone like ourselves.

I've got a PTSD buddy, a vet like me, similar experiences, same problems, and same age. We talk, laugh, moan, rave, and swap ideas. He's actually a really nice guy, unless triggered. Only problem is he lives miles away. So locally, I've got nothing. BUT, he knows my timetable as I do his so we...

    What now??

Background: Go see your doctor says the media and ask for help. I did and ARGH! Officially it's CPTSD, and I'm having my first uncontrollable relapse in 34 years. The "Treatment" started in October, after 10 months on a waiting list. Which I suppose is pretty good for the UK's NHS. Treatment...

The desire to return to the cause of my PTSD is growing

Firstly thank you for YOUR service. I worked with the aid of dedicated leading firefighters when the UK fire service went on strike in the 1977. It was stressful, YET, and possibly well weird, I enjoyed the challenges of your job. As for me, like you, my nightmares and flashbacks seldom take the...

The desire to return to the cause of my PTSD is growing

It's the 'unregulated' media's fault for being too graphic in it's coverage of what's going on in Ukraine. That and me drawing an association with what I lived through 37 years ago. It's triggered a powerful need to get involved again. Something that is stupid as I'm a physically and mentally...

My future looks dire and painful.

Getting well uptight. Therapy stalled for a month and emails are going unanswered. Years ago, when asking for personnel and ammo. When command didn't reply, it was usually a case of them thinking, "What the hell do we do now?" Now change 'command' for NHS subcontractor. Nuff said? Climbing the...

My future looks dire and painful.

My mental and physical health have taken a few bad knocks this year. One GP saying you're not coping well because of the pain you are living with is affecting your mind. (How insightful). Okay, sort of, but I asked for help to get me sleeping and pain control. His answer? When you get too tired...

    Driving in a storm.

Janes and John's? Probably, if you didn't have access to a sidearm. Ordinarily, if I am swamped by something when driving, I do as I said, pull in, chill out, and start again, BUT this was different. The bang triggered me, plus someone (with the best intentions) joined in, and that wasn't a...

    Driving in a storm.

Driving home today in not the best of weather. Cold, sleet, then heavy rain, and 60mph gusts. You might say a bit stressful for a fit person but I had no choice, it was me or no one to collect something from town, 14 miles away. Humidity was high, windows forever steaming up, down country lanes...

Rewriting dreams? Might work for some.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, SWMBO started me on my dream journal, and it has sort of made a difference on minor stuff. However, it had a really nasty effect on our relationship for a while as SWMBO read the journal without me being there. Up to then she had no idea what I had experienced or...

Rewriting dreams? Might work for some.

Update. This is getting interesting. No one knows If 'my' therapist is coming back. Meanwhile the new therapist ISN'T a therapist at all, just a mental health vet support nurse. It maybe a little bit early to draw a conclusion, but methinks this smacks of SNAFU.

Rewriting dreams? Might work for some.

The Story first. I nearly flipped today when I got a call from a NEW therapist I have never seen or talked to, who wants me to rewrite my nightmares with a happy ending. He went on, "Then, when I next fight that nightmare, it won't worry me as it will have a "Happy Ending"." That might work for...

    Battles

Judging by the way I burn through therapists, my anger management therapy isn't working very well. Over the years I've gone though 5 (with number 6 pending). Only two worked well with me, the first pair. They gave me 36 years of control over the extremes, until it didn't work anymore. Today it...

physical and emotional fatigue along with stomach and head pain

Happens to me. Fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, and 'hurting guts'. All that (for me) is a result of being in "flight and hyper vigilance mode" for too long. Especially after a really bad flashback or nightmare, or a heavy sensory overload caused by being swamped. After being very strung out...

What are your pet peeves ?

England, my country, only no more is it something I believe in. Politics one. Wanna know how to tell if a politician is lying? He opens his piehole. Politics two. When a friend died on a hospital trolley after hours of waiting. She was in her 80's. NATO. They directly locked my PTSD into place...

How long does it take you to fall asleep?

After a bad day? Hours. Most I get on one of those nights is 2-3 hours (with interruptions). Good day, but not tired? Go to bed, listen to my sleepy music. 2 hours it runs for and I don't think I've ever got past track 13 out of 67. 4 minutes after the music cuts off. I wake up. EVERYTIME...
