I have done lot of reading up on memory and it is very common for those who have sufffered trauma especially csa to recall very specific things such as room layouts, patterns etc of the things around them but not remember specifics about the actual acts.
I cant recall any words that were said...
It is amazing what your mind recalls. I have had several confirming moments very similar.
What hit me was that in fact part of me in a way always hoped i had been wrong strange as i knew i wasnt. A few years ago i reported my abuser and many confirming moments followed. Such as when a police...
@Joan is right with the skills work book. I have just done 12 12weeks of dbt which covered only a small chunk of dbt i supplemented myself using the worksheets.
I found the mindfulness really useful.
It is hard work and i found i had to do things over and over. However all the people i know...
Really sorry to hear to you are experiencing this. What about some guided meditation there are loads of free app ones a body scan one might be good and there are ones to help with sleep too that help me when in the samw position
@Suzetig thanks for the name drop of the therapist I shall be looking in to that.
Also I am very inspired and encourage by the changes you talk so positively about.
Perfect timing as i am starting emdr next monday. Very nervous but hopeful that it will ease some of my memories.
I have thoroughly checked out the therapist so all good there she is very experienced and i have every confidence in her.
My worry is the after effects of the sessions i am worried...
@shimmerz i have nothing constructive to write but just to say I am on the exact same page as you and could not put it into words any better so will be follow this thread with great interest.
many therapist do email, skype or online message therapy now. I am in the uk but will probably be the same there. I have had skype therapy with my usual therapist when I am on holiday for a month. It in fact works really well and would certainly do it again. check out therapist websites and that...
Firstly A diagnosis is just a label it is the symptoms you deal with that are the thing that needs addressing and many mental illness share symptoms. I have never been a fan of a label.
Secondly do not be afraid of seeing some one it is not a sign of weakness to get help and support in fact it...
Thanks nice to know that support is awaiting.
Feeling ok about it at the moment but know it will be tough. Think it is a good move though so looking long term.
Thank you for such lovely words. She would have given me referralls but she knows i have other people i can contact. I am still in contact with her as she is helping my daughter out with a project and helped me book a holiday where her son works (hence blurred boundaries again)
I am start...
Your welcome. They get less scarey once you are aware of what they are but hopefully it was a one off for you. Take it easy as with standard flashbacks it can take a while to calm the nervous system back down.
yes you have the idea. it is a response that hits your emotions so your emotions run off in response and it is hard to trace back exactly what much of the time can happen with you body too in that your body response to something in a way it did at the time of the trauma. I have a lot of...
sounds to me like an emotional flashback. I have these frequently. your body is reacting but you have no idea exactly why. care for yourself in the same way as you would with standard flashbacks.
sorry that happened to you especially whilst you were driving.
even from the age of 6 and being tiny for my age I hit back, every time (and there were hundreds) i fought my abuser he alway won in the end. I could not tell you why I just recall always trying to fight him off. (my parents saw me fighting him head down a staircase but laughed and how they...
How about writing it and emailing over before the session. I found this helped i knew going in that she already knows the details so might as well say it.
Think it what you outline is very common. i have had three therapists and felt very attached to each of them in different ways. The first was very mutual we were both very open about the level off attachment we felt towards each other and it was hard leaving her after a few years because i...
