Class Action Lawsuit In Australia - Ssri Antidepressants And Suicide Risk

I was on Sertraline for three years. I had attempted suicide before I decided to go on anti depressants. I read the information that came with the tablets which clearly stated that in some cases it could increase the risk of suicide, my GP also advised me of the risk. Obviously I can only...

    Good Childhood Memories?

Being allowed to get out of bed after weeks bed bound in hospital, and learning to walk again. Going home after weeks or months in hospital. I was always sad to say goodbye to nurses and friends I'd made, but to be free of pain, needles, horrid medicines and examinations, I would have ran out...

Uk Nhs Treatment For Ptsd Seems To Bad!

I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time getting professional help. I've also had difficulty in getting to see a therapist, just any therapist, so I am not surprised by your experiences. The therapist I am currently seeing does specialise in CBT and uses compassionate mind therapy...

News Gun Control - It Took An Aussie Comedian To Get It Right

I'll admit to being ignorant of the detailed arguments. But coming from a culture where having a gun is not the norm (on the very rare occasion I see one being carried it really stands out and makes me nervous, they are weapons after all..) I just don't get it. How many more Sandy Hooks, or...

Have You Ever Had Your Mental Health Thrown Back At You

I think @FridayJones has hit the nail on the head. I'm a parent, not a grandparent (yet) but I know I react, sometimes unfairly to perceived criticism by my parents. I think it's human nature and I hope my parents don't ever read too much into it. It says more about my own insecurities than...

10 primary cognitive distortions (negative thinking styles)

Thanks for this. It made me quite emotional to recognise some of these characteristics in myself. Especially emotional reasoning and labelling. For example I did something weird which caused a major disruption to my life. Five years later I still allow this one act to completely define me...

    Sense Of Self

Thanks for the replies and suggested reading. I will follow them up. sorry for the slow reply. I've been trying to digest all the comments. There's a lot for me to think about and get my head around. I'm seeing my therapist tomorrow and am better informed thanks to you, so we can discuss it...

What Is Your Best Coping Method?

At times of high stress, I act out scenes of my traumatizing experiences. They are sexual in nature. I'm not saying this is a helpful or positive coping strategy, but it's been a way of life for a long time. I also listen to my vinyl (records), go for walks, swim in the sea, kayak and surf a bit.

    Sense Of Self

A few years ago I had to be assessed by a consultant. In amongst the resulting 30 page report he stated I needed to develop a better 'sense of self'. This has bothered me ever since I read it, because I had always felt I didn't know who was, what type of person I am, or how other people...

Would Going Back On Medication Be A Step Backwards?

I thought it might be nice to update this thread, particularly in response to the warm and caring support I've received. I haven't gone back on medication, or obtained means to self harm. Over the last three weeks I've calmed down, and had no major anxiety attacks. This is despite some...

Apathy And Loss Of Libido As A Side Effect Of Ssri (in My Case Prozac)

I was on Sertraline and diazepam for three years. It took at least 6 months for me to really notice any change, including recovery of my libido after coming off it. And I believe it can take longer than that in many cases. I'd talk to your GP about it.

What Have You Learned About Yourself Through Ptsd?

On the downside PTSD has made me realize that I am not as resilient as I thought I was. Although I have survived, to date, I thought I was a super confident unshakable person. I now suffer from near constant self doubt. And anxiety.....where did that come from.....I never did anxiety, that...

    Why Didn't I Remember That?

I've had this experience just once. I was watching a television programme that triggered a huge emotional reaction and then brought back a memory from my childhood that was definitely of a traumatising experience. What was weird was that I'd never actually forgotten the traumatising experience...

News Human Rights For Sex Offenders

I ask myself the same question over and over, selfishly simply because I want to understand my own journey. Some people don't develop coping strategies at all that are sexual in nature, in response to sexual abuse, why not? This is so wrong. I am so sorry you have been subject to such total...

News Human Rights For Sex Offenders

I can so relate to this. I was 'labelled' as being a 'potential risk' by social services because I re-enacted experiences of childhood trauma that were sexual in nature. I had done this since I was a teenager, in private and always on my own. No one ever suggested what I was doing was illegal...

Relationship Is There Any Positive Relationships Supporters Are In?

My childhood traumas led me to develop a coping strategy in which I 're-enacted' abusive and traumatising sexual experiences. I started doing this when I was a teenager, always in secret and on my own, weird yes but harmless. My re-enacting became known to social services, long story but I...

Relationship Is There Any Positive Relationships Supporters Are In?

I asked my partner. She said she loves me, our kids and us, and despite our battles wouldn't have it any other way. She said we are stronger and better together. We've been through the mill and back and survived as a couple. Pretty amazing really. F**k em all, were still here!!

    Medical Medical Induced Trauma

I had both good, bad and indifferent experiences in hospital. Most of the indifferent treatment reflected the institutional approach by the nhs. I was force fed disgusting tasting pre- meds when I was age 3 to 6 which caused to to vomit every time, they would hold me down and force it into me...

    Medical Medical Induced Trauma

What Are Some Of The Excuses People Use To Justify Abuse?

In hospital, age 13. "If you can't do it to yourself for me, the nurses will when you get back on the ward. Or I can help you do it now. Would you like me to help you?". ....yes.
