Let The Games Begin - London 2012 Olympics

I just read that the US coverage eliminated this tribute. I'm very disappointed with NBC (the television network). I will have to see if I can find a video of this bit.

    I've Found Something Helpful!

Thanks for the tip, I'm glad it helped you! I've taken Bach's regular Rescue Remedy. I'm not sure if it really helps or if it's the placebo effect, but I like *doing* something to try to manage the anxiety, anyway.

No Clue How To Get Through Today

Yeah, not sleeping makes me an emotional wreck. I'm sorry you're stuck at work feeling so bad. I'm glad you see the crying as functional--it really is! Are you able to get out of the office and walk around outside, even for five minutes? For me, being able to leave the location can help...

    Secondary Anxiety

Sounds like a bit of a rough go. Can you call your parents to check and see if they do, in fact, have it? That kind of thing would string me out, too. And once the worry is there...forget sleep. The family issue is unfortunately quite sad. I'm sorry that she is not yet able to face it as you...

How Did You Sleep Last Night?

I was triggered by something yesterday evening and so had a hard time letting myself fall asleep. Then, as I was nodding off about 2:30, I saw the outdoor security lights go on. I stayed up until 5:00 "just in case." UGH. I made myself get up at the appointed time so I can try for a good night's...

How Did You Sleep Last Night?

I'm sleeping well, but on completely the wrong schedule! I've been sleeping 1-9am lately, but I need to shift it back to 10-6 in the next few weeks. I tried setting my alarm for 8 this weekend, but that was too ambitious--I just turned off the phone alarm. I think I need to plug in a traditional...

    Meditation To Reduce Anxiety

My therapist has also done guided meditations with me. I had tried mindfulness meditation previously and it was helpful, but it also sometimes led me to ruminating, triggering thoughts. The guided meditation gives me something else to focus on and helps me get calm--often I can do mindfulness...

Let The Games Begin - London 2012 Olympics

I was thrilled to see Kenneth Branagh in the opening ceremonies, I have a weak spot for him. I want to watch the judo but it's not televised here in the US (one half-hour only!) so I will have to catch it online. I also like ladies' gymnastics. I know of a few athletes (kids of friends of...

Going Through The Motions? Sometimes Yes

Yes, exactly. In my experience, my therapist goes only where I lead, for a multitude of reasons. A good question to ask yourself, when you find yourself falling into the chit-chat, is "What do I really want to address today? How frustrated or disappointed will I feel if I don't talk about it?"...

What Are You Feeling Today? Not Thinking, Rather Feeling! Can You Identify Yours?

Proud because I got off my rear and went to the gym.

How Long Have You Had Nightmares?

The frequency you report doesn't seem shocking to me, either. I remember my psychiatrist being a little amazed at my sleep patterns once, too, and I found it kind of disconcerting! I wonder, too, if the gasp response might have anything to do with a sympathy response? Like, "How awful to have to...

How Did You Sleep Last Night?

Another night where I did take my meds properly. Woot. I finally fell asleep later than I'd planned, and got out of bed later too, but at least I'm getting 7 hours without nightmares! I'll keep working on the timeframe.

How Did You Sleep Last Night?

My sleep patterns have gone to crap since I've been on vacation. More time at home means I am triggered more, and that means being too scared to take my sleep meds (because I am afraid I won't wake up at a noise). I got a smaller dose from the pdoc to try to manage the fear, and I took it last...

Can't Remember Therapy Sessions (dissociating), So What Use Is Therapy?

My therapist and I roll with the dissociation. I agree that discussing the dissociation in session is invaluable. I can often tell now when it's happening, and he can often read my physical cues to it, too. I don't think of dissociation as an enemy in therapy any more. It's informative: it tells...

Is It Worth It To Get Diagnosed?

If you want to get any treatments (like therapy) covered in the US, an insurance company requires a diagnosis to process the claim.

    Coffee

One of my coworkers keeps an enormous opaque water bottle on her desk. She is incredibly peppy. Her secret: it is filled to the brim not with water, but with Mountain Dew!
