Just some advice that might be unnecessary but just in case:

Don't send food, liquids or powder intercontinental. Most countries won't accept them (it's OK in the country you live in but not abroad).

I'm going shopping for my gift tomorrow and will hopefully get it sent off the same day.

Fyi US Flat Rate boxes only work within the US.

Most companies that gifts are ordered thru use their return address and allow you to put whatever name you want on the gift. Like Kris Kringle

No, they work for both domestic and international shipping. I have shipped to India many times with those flat rate boxes.

I think part of the rules MUST be

I'm not sure this is a good idea or not - - Perhaps once a gift is received, people could post to say they have received (but not opened!) their gift. That way, the senders could rest happy knowing that their gift had been safely delivered across the continents. I'm a little bit concerned that I might somehow cock up on the postage, or get the address wrong, or something. Once sent, it would be good to know if / when it arrives.

Anyway, first things first - I need to go (internet) shopping!
