What is this activity? I mean I get who Kris Kringle is, but what is this sending and receiving all about?

@hope for now Basically, for the last few years, we have sent our names and addresses to Nicolette. She the gives us one person to buy a gift for. Kris Kringle is Santas real name. The receiver doesn't know who the gift is from.
