I watched the opening ceremony last night and it was beautiful. I'm so glad that they have introduced a refugee team this year for people who can't compete for a country. I will be rooting for them. As and American I will be rooting for the Americans too but in a way, I think I can identify more with the refugee team. With certain forms of PTSD you feel like a foreigner everywhere you go, including your own country, because you grew up in a culture of abuse rather than the country's culture. It's hard to identify with the main stream culture sometimes. I'm not a refugee but I guess I'm about as close to being one as I can be without being one. I've moved thousands of miles several times to evade my stalker and had several experiences with arriving some place I've never been with not much where I don't know anyone. I feel like in a way the refugee team represents refugees but also generally people with trauma. It's great to see people who've been through so much keep pushing and make it as far as the Olympics. It's a great example to follow.
