I found this site on pintrest and thought Id share. Im on a search for self care and this is the longest list Ive found thus far.

http://reflectionsfromaredhead.com/self-care-when-life-gets-hard/

Oddly, I've tried most I can do on this list added with colored noise. Nothing is really working so I pose the question, what would you add to the list? What helps you to calm, distract, and get through hard times?

@lostforgottensoul - thank you for the link...that is a wonderful blog!

What helps you to calm, distract, and get through hard times?

Most of the time I am avoiding anyway, which I am very good at, but occasionally something sneaks up and whacks me on the head and says "I ain't letting go..."

So these are some things I do for self care:

1. I let all calls go to the answering machine (and ignore everyone)
2. I play with my dogs
3. I design a new art piece
4. I learn a new art technique
5. I buy something I absolutely do not need
6. I play music at home really loud and sing along
7. I eat an ice cream cone - (little known secret: most soft serve ice cream is very, very low in fat - that is how they keep it soft)
8. If all else fails I will play The Sims game (I spent a week on this recently)

:roflmao:

Im cheap. I wait until there are too many holes to ignore in my shoes to buy more...

Buy something! If it's not going to get you in big trouble like something that requires financing, just do it!

You can always find a way to get a pair of nice shoes, even if it means you have to eat noodles for a week and
only pay half your utility bill, ( you'll catch up, they dont even care) a girls gotta live once in a while!

I didnt look at the pinterest list because I'm inclined to get overwhelmed with all the suggestions, I see lists like that in doctors waiting room copies of Cosmo, and think " Who the Hell are these women? They're 40 and need to go to a spa or buy $500 worth of ' suggested retailers' scented oils and 'Ocean Sounds' cd's because a blind date was disappointing?? --- Pfftt!!! :yuck:

Noodles and new shoes girlfriend. You wont be disappointed.

:roflmao:

Oh god, this is cracking me up! Y'all are crazy.

Im only Ms 'must pay a bill on...

When I first realized you could shuffle timing of utility and water bills, it was like when I discovered you still have 30 miles after the little orange gas pump light goes on in your dashboard.....it's keys to diabolical thinking....the world is our oyster when we figure these things out.

I know you'll be wearing some nice shoes when you plot your next move. ;)

Self Care:

- Movement Meditation
- Good food
- Drinking enough water
- Spending time in nature (even just local park or walk by water)
- Free Writing
- Sleeping/Resting
- Listening to music very loud and singing along
- Dancing/Movement
- Bath
- Aromatherapy
- Accupuncture
- Buying myself flowers

Spending time in nature (even just local park or walk by water)

My therapist agrees with that by saying "nature heals". I couldnt seems to do the homework of going to a park and honestly didnt even understand that nature heals until i saw Louie Schwartzberg's work on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday (the most beautiful time lapse photography ive ever seen).

Its hard to find something thats not a Ted Talks of Louie Schwartzberg and is fully time laspe. I love his vido Graditue (which shaped "Everyone Matters"; though not fully time laspe, the message is wonderful:

Anyway, im rambling in video now lol.

Free Writing

Writing whatever comes to mind? Unsure of the term. If thats what it is, thats about all or most of my threads here. I cant write if thinking about it.

Aromatherapy

Ive tied that and i dont know if my smeller is just not connected to my brain or what.

Me too. I use my physical health as an excuse.

Unfortunately - sometimes it is a REAL excuse. Difficult to manage, when simply leaving the house can damage my physical health to the point of an infection. - and there is no way to predict ahead of time. My therapist who pushes me to do things understands this. We are currently working on a list of small things I can do without leaving the house. It is not ideal, but I am trying to move forward while dealing with this limitation.

In fact, reading and posting on this board is definitely on the list - other than here, I have no support from anyone except my parents and my therapist.

I am going to check that list and highlight things I can do from home, and that won't flare up pain. Thanks for putting up the link!
