It was on the news today that 660 people have been arrested for viewing indecent images, what are we meant to make of that. It seems it is something that has been ignored for years. I KNOW it is something that has been pushed under the carpet for years, as if it didn't happen.

But what does that mean for people that have been abused and forgotten? It just accentuates the fact that people have ignored it. And now, while I appreciate that the change will be better for future generations, it is difficult to watch the righteous indignation of a society in which individuals are guilty for allowing abuse, for turning a blind eye, for judging the effects of abuse to be the child being bad or flawed in some way, to judging the adult to be worthless because they have learned about a different world, that doesn't fit in with the acceptable ignorance of the great and the good.

So now, I have to sit in my outcast place in the world, and watch while the good people of our society cover up the flaws in themselves that prevented them seeing beyond their narrow view of the world, and reaching into the darker side of the world to at least attempt to understand the lives that they haven't had.

I am finding this hard too. It is also just everywhere, everywhere I go there's something about child sex abuse it's so hard it's in my mind all the time anyway. Of course its good that at last something is being done but as you say, way too late for us.

Here in America there has been considerable efforts to arrest and convict pedophiles. The sensational cases are the Catholic priests that were relocated instead of turned into the police. A big coverup that was found out because very brave adults came forward to tell their stories.

Also a major University had a famous football program and one of the coaches had been abusing boys for years and his boss covered up for him. He is in jail for life and the boss died.

It really seems to me that as a country, we are quick to find justice for the males but incest is still a word no one wants to speak of. Pisses me off.

Sexual abuse has had an elevated profile here in Canada, too. What I find challenging is that a lot of time is given to 'stranger danger' scenarios - which are important, but little or no acknowledgement goes to family members who prey on their young relatives. Perhaps it is a continuum of enlightenment. When I was young (in the 60s and 70s) discussion of sexual abuse at all was taboo, over the years that is changing. I have wondered if we will ever get to a point where teaching child sexual safety would be common. I know the whole 'your area covered by a swimsuit is private', but as we know, there is so much manipulation and other issues involved in sexual abuse by a family member. This topic really makes me think about how far we still need to go to deal with this issue and how little emphasis it truly gets.

It is frightening to realize how many pedophiles are out there trolling the internet. I am glad they are being caught and I hope they get the book thrown at them! At the same time, I hope they check in on their young relatives.

I am also immersed in the feelings of what this thread is all about for so many subjects on so many levels. I have to chose a positive glass half full view of it otherwise I get angry and resentful. The change is way too slow.

I think of it as this. Every one hundred years or so, the entire population of the planet changes and there is barely anyone alive that was there before that 100 years. Each few generations there is an entire new population. The pioneers of change rarely get to see the full results of their efforts in their lifetimes. Like the suffragettes who marched for women's right to vote, or the soldiers who fought for our freedoms. Each generation gets better and better then eventually you have a snowball effect where it starts to happen faster because inevitably the bad characters just die out and more of their victims speak out and get therapy. I have to focus on this, maybe it's a delusion, I hope not.

By the same token, we all take part in change by speaking out, documenting our stories, raising awareness and documenting our recoveries. I have intense feelings of rage in relation to the whole subject of child exploitation and the inadequate responses of those that lead and govern us, have to the issue. That's about as far into the Pandora's box of emotion I'm prepared to let myself go today.

This outrages me. How can this still be happening in this day. When I was being sexually abused years ago nobody cared. Most of the town was doing the same thing. I was disgusting. When is someone going to hear the cries of the children. Sorry I get really emotional thinking about children being abused.
