News 7 Billion Population Today - So... When's The Next World War?

I visited a few eastern European countries this past year and they all believe another war is only a few years off (i.e. Bosnia, Serbia etc...)

Please understand that there are a significant number of Veterans that use this forum. Please understand that nameless accusations can be triggering. If we want to look at the facts surrounding the "War on Terror," we need to be fair.

In 2001 an small group of extremists decided they didn't like us because of our Religion and Economic Power. They plotted attacks against us and killed Thousands of innocent people in the name of Hate. Why they hated us is almost irrelevant.

So we responded by demanding they hand over the guilty and desist with the violance. They refused and since then 158 of my comrades have died in the name of peace. The War itself went extremely well. Al Qiada ceased to be a functioning entity within a year. But then we made a mistake. Instead of pulling out when our objectives were met, we took sides. We decided to support a faction who wanted the little girls to go to school. So here we are 10 years later, and as soon as we pull out, those girls aren't going to be allowed to go to school anyways. 158 lives wasted trying to ensure a society that lives on hate would evolve. Wasted trying to educate a people who didn't want to learn love anyways.

So you can live on blaming your government for getting you involved in a war for Oil. I just want to say two things. There is no oil in Afghanistan. There never was. And second, a plee. Please do not sully the names of those that have died with your petty accusations. They were brave men and women, and they deserve better.

Zipperhead,

It was never my intention to sully the names of those who fought. And I wasn't talking about Afghanistan. Of course those who died were brave men and women. Please accept my apologies, and I am sorry that I offended you.

Zipperhead,

In hindsight your right, I should of taken my think pill before writing what I did. Sometimes it's better to keep ones opinion to themselves than to put it in black and white. My apologies also extend to any of the Veterans on this forum that I may have offended.

It is all one War Loloma. And I did answer without referancing your post or your name. I guess it isn't hard to guess where the sentiments were directed though. Still, my mesage was more how the negitive comments are interpretted from our end. I respect that you were just saying your point of view and never meant offense. That is why I didn't referance your post. I just wish people would be more sensitive to how their comments come across. It is a terrible war, and not one that we asked to fight. But it is a justified war, and the doubt shown by many in our culture is truely disheartening. I understand the need to deny that there are people out there that hate us. I understand the resistance to believe that there are people who will never accept that we have rights. But they are out there, and your Military is trying it's best to keep you safe. So please, unless you can prove that someone is pulling those strings and causing this war, respect those that care enough to fight.

Interesting points, everyone. Loloma, I'd posit that the world is already being run by a few nations and the super rich. In my opinion, WWIII has actually been going on for a long time now. It started with the assault on democracy and by that I mean the concentration of the media in the hands of a few (among other things)...The whole PR industry is geared towards distracting people so they wouldn't use their analytical skills where it really matters etc. etc. That's the real tyranny. Let's look at democracy...In the US, you only really have two 'choices' (with realistic chances of winning) : Republican or Democrat...but when you really think about it, they're two sides of the same coin, and, ultimately, not much different than a one-party state. The one good thing is you're still allowed to say what you want. The problem is, when it goes too much against the grain, you're automatically shut out of "serious" discussion and labelled a conspiracy theorist or anarchist or some such thing. This isn't just a US problem....It's everywhere. Look also at the treatment of the so-called 'Arab Spring'...The US (and others) are happy to support these people's push for 'freedom' and 'democracy' (sure, why not?) but are arresting people who are peacefully exercising those same rights in their own country (countries)...whether you agree or not with the Occupy movement, the fact is, they have a right to protest etc. Anyway, I could go on and on and on about all this...In terms of something that could resemble an actual all out WWIII happening...I can't say I'm optimistic. I think some kind of 'defining' moment (so to speak) will happen...whether it's a decision by the West to attack Iran or whatever...I just worry. We could all live inpeace if we really wanted to. Unfortunately, war is too good for business...

I heard something today that I found quite disturbing that relates to this thread. It is estimated that the world population 2000 years ago was 300 million. It took about 1600 years to double the population to 600 million. Since 1998 the world population has increased 1 billion. I think if we don't have a world war to thin the herd nature will do it for us. If I live past the thinning I look forward to less traffic while commuting.

Zipperhead, I appreciate where you're coming from and I hope you know this isn't meant as any criticism of the people in the military. They are brave men and women who lay their lives on the line and I have absolutely no doubt that their motives are to protect us and I respect that tremendously. However, I don't think it's fair to invoke the fallen soldiers in an effort to prevent honest debate and intimidate people (I don't think this is what you were trying to do, but, it ends up having that effect) and prevent them from stating their opposition to what the powers that be (and these are civilian authorities, and, sadly, in many cases, heavily tied in with business entities) are doing with these wars (ie Iraq and Afghanistan).

In terms of why people attacked the US, I think we have to look at the root causes, as with any conflict. Therefore, I respectfully disagree that it's almost irrelevant why "they hate us." The West, primarily the former colonial powers have a long history of meddling in the Middle East and elsewhere. Does that justify what those idiots did on 9/11? Of course not. However, if we want to move on and have a better world, we need to honestly address the issues and not simply accept the sh*t we were fed that "they" hate our rights. I mean, sure, you can put it that way, if you take "our rights" to mean "our rights" to shit on everyone else and take whatever we want so that we can live a certain lifestyle while people in those places get poorer and poorer etc.

I agree that the initial response and attack on Afghanistan was justified. However, it seemed pretty clear that eventually it ceased being about that. And while you'r eright that Afghanistan itself does not have oil, there is a central Asian pipeline that is indeed supposed to go through there. It is also no coincidence that Hamid Karzai was an oil exec. As for Iraq, that war is completely, 100% not justified, not to mention illegal.

This is in response to other posts re African population boom and "not understanding their logic"...There are, of course, numerous reasons but one of the root problems here, too, is colonialism. These are results of imposing a certain religion on the local populations etc...

Very true Reallydown about birth control concerning THEIR religion. In my opinion that needs to be changed and not just with that country.
