Oh dear. He was a cheerful kind of fellow, wasn't he? He- 'the fire will rage until the very foundations of the present world crumble'. I'm sorry, but whenever any single person/author speaks this way I always, always supect them ( not you, Ron- am seriously not 'starting something'-do not have the intent ot the energy! :) Am just following this in my whifty way as usual)of attempting to gather a flock and look around for a Mount to clamber up on, from which to Prophet all over said flock. Now, this could be true, of course, given how many kooks out there seem to have swiped ingredients to nuclear devices but still-this sort of wording just makes me want to giggle. If the Book of Revalation can't scare me, Henry Miller isn't going to suceed either. It's like going to horror movies. People like to be scared. If the world is such a dreadful place, instead of listening to all the doomsday drips out there, why on earth are not people referring back to what Anthony originally wrote and simply DOING something? Every, single person could DO-SOMETHING. Yes, it would be that simple, albeit with massive shifts of conscieneness ( dammit-the dyxlexia kicking up today-just spelled 'yes' esya ), Being aware on the planet requires responsibilty, is what 'it' is, not handing over responsibily for ones self to others. We do that a LOT here in the US, while giving lip service to NOT doing so. Here, all that means is that poor people better not be poor because the government sure as heck isn't going to step in and do anything.Otherwise- pay your taxes, your outrageous gas and energy bills, turn on the TV if you wish to be told what to think and buy-and leave everything else to the little man behind the curtain because all is well. Our personal responsibility is to wake UP, individually, think for ourselves, individually, which would make a unit un-led by Corporate greed but by people aware that we're part of a planet inhabited by others.
Communism as a concept was an idea, which was pretty benign really. The countries which instituted their version of it did so with bloodshed and force, with greed and power at its core so of course the whole set up had zero to do with Marx anyway. Now our politicians are attemtping to paint Socialism with the same brush-sending people into a panic here, using it at a loaded word. Geesh. If you asked anyone who IS frightened by the word 'Socialised Medicine', for instance, they would seriously not even know what it meant, it would just be something to be afraid of.
I think it's easier to be afraid of things than to just take responsibility for oneself and ones world, but it hassss to be the first step to literally sharing our planet. Not so tough, if we say shush first to the politians, prophets, doomsday ninnies and Corporate talking heads behind the curtain in Oz.
