Oh yes, very much so. It's getting better though. The turning point was learning to trust that the body holds accurate memories. As I've learned to trust it's messages through my flashbacks, I've found they are remarkably consistent over time. The bits of "story" I've recovered come to me in a very different way from the body messages and I've had to develop the patience to wait and see about the story. The story comes so much more quickly and completely, while the flashbacks tell the story in tiny increments. 99% of the time though, as I've waited to see what happens, I find the two do fit together.I guess I am asking if there is anyone else that wonders about what really happened and if their memory even though the bits are accurate, if the memory of how it all fits together is correct?
What kind of therapist are you working with? Is there someone who can work with you on listening to your body? That could be very validating for you.
Edited to add: the thing you mention about remembering and forgetting again is also very normal. It happens to a lot of us. It gets better in time.
