Time to get a thread off to start the Art, Music, Poetry & Photography Group, the first thread will have a focus on Music.

Would like to create an eclectic resource with this thread for people to share music, please respect other's opinions, preferences and musical tastes.

Feel free to share one of the following...

1. Song
2. Lyrics
3. Music
4. Musicians
5. Bands
6. Albums

...that have helped you through your PTSD. You can feel free to explain why it helps or helped you as a medium to talk about what happened or how you feel.

PLEASE DON'T POST THE ACTUAL MEDIA FILES UNLESS YOU HAVE THE RIGHTS TO THE MUSIC, rather link to existing artist websites or resources related to that topic so that we can avoid copyright stuff all together, yet still allow them to be accessible to all forum members.

Hmmm... I am a musician at heart, there are so many songs, artists, genres, etc. that get me through the day. Lately I've taken quite a liking to the soundtrack of the anime Cowboy Bebop. It has a lot of Jazz, and some other instrumentals that are hard to put into a genre. Anyways, if it doesn't take my mind off to some better things it at least expresses the way I feel.

I will have to check that Cowboy Bebop out, I do like anime & soundtracks in general. But haven't had much exposure to any good anime lately.

Lately a few bands have been really getting me to get through some rough patches:

Owl City - Song "Fireflies" plus basically everything they make.

Imogen Heap - Song "Wait it out"

Regina Specktor - Song "Eet"

Lights - Song "Face up"

Stars of Track & Field - Song "End of All Time"

Imagine you could tear the world apart,
Lay it all out like a weather chart.
Take your time 'cause you're up against space,
Sweep up the tears running down your face.

You burn bright when you're left alone,
Build up the speed to bring you home.
Turn off the lights and watch you glow!

To the end of all time, just so I can see the light and climb, over you.
To the end of all time, just so I can see the light and climb, over me.

Stevie Ray Vaghn does a version of Little Wing that blows me away every time I hear it. If CPTSD could be music, to me it would be this.

Hey O:

SRV is one of my all-time favourites, and his version of Hendrix' "Little Wing" is an absolute masterpiece. Have you ever seen SRV's "Live at the El Mocambo" DVD ?? You may also enjoy two of SRV's ballads, "Lenny," and "Riviera Paradise." What a beautiful and deeply expressive guitar player he was. I must admit to being a blues fanatic and have been doing fairly extensive research into the history of the blues. Last night I watched a newly-released music documentary called, "It Might Get Loud," starring Jack White (White Stripes), The Edge (U2), and Jimmy Page (Zed Leppelin). A good time was had by all.

Hey all, I just wanted to connect with a few other creative souls. I have a photographic website check out http://scottigphotography.com. It is in great need of updating. Anyway the images are solid outdoor and landscape!

I spent 17 years in Radio and TV production. I also did a mess load of sound board mixing. I was a frustrated musician (played 6 instruments and not that good at any of them....what ya gonna do?) so I worked with a lot of musician here in Texas during the 70's into the early 90's.

I am also an author with 2 published books now. My latest went #1 Best-Seller. Really a book of Hope,Courage and Inspiration. My chapter is on my surviving PTSD. You can get a copy at [DLMURL]http://overcomeranthology.com[/DLMURL]

I got the Beatles box-set as a Christmas present for myself, and every album puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart. I even caught myself singing along with John and Paul. Music can be such a healing force; it re-directs me from the fear to something approaching pure joy.

I wouldn't want to listen to dark, edgy music like Black Sabbath or the Sex Pistols as part of my "music therapy." That kind of music would probably act as a trigger and reinforce my sense of fear.

Hi

I added some pics. I love photography and looking at peaceful things, it relaxes me. I like the random and unusual, so sometimes you can't make out exactly what it is, but you just have to keep looking.
