Strong 2nd for getting the book club off the ground and running again!

And a suggestion....? Okay, 2 suggestions.

1) I read 3-10 books a week on average, right now, would love to book club up... But have had genre or thematic problems each month. Just bad luck/timing. But if it was keeping me from participating I'm guessing there are others in the same boat. Kept checking back each month, and kept being a no go. :( Maybe instead of 1 book a month, we could have 2? Perhaps a 180 degree choice from whatever the monthly winner is?

180 Choices Examples

ChickLit > Thriller
Serious & Sad > Comedy
Horror > Romance
ClassicLit > Comic Book
Et cetera

2) A free option. https://www.gutenberg.org has over 46,000 free books to download (and more and more each year as copyrights expire! We're in anything written before 1945! As anything with an expired copyright (70+ years) is in the public domain. :D Has durn near every genre in it, and the books can be read on Kindle Apps, Nooks, computers...

____________

If there aren't any mods at present willing/able to take it on themselves, is there a mod out there who would split the job with me? ... I'd be willing to at least do the monitoring, noticing, posting polls, compiling and shoot someone the finished lists/announcements as long as someone could edit the things into the first page?

I get this, because it's one of the reasons I've not participated as much as I might have. I do sometimes like being challenged to read something I wouldn't normally pick up, but some of them just either really haven't appealed at all, or I know I would have found too triggering - and I'm not really up for paying for something in either of those categories.

The other thing that sometimes prevents me from participating is if the book is not available at a reasonable price on audio - I used to read read read all the time, unfortunately my concentration and focus issues mean I really struggle with it now and need it on audio instead. I can't borrow audio from the library though, and if I'm going to pay for a book, I do need it to be something I'm likely to actually to enjoy reading!

Another suggestion, and something I'd probably find easier to join in with is just a thread with people reviewing their own book recommendations. 'What I've just read and why it was good/crap etc.... as I'm always looking for something new.

I recommend "Surviving the Angel of Death. The Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz" by Eva Mozes Kor.

My favourite band wrote a song to honor that woman because they were so impressed by her work and attitude. I listened to their song "Todesengel" (Angel of Death) a lot and bought me the book. It's written from the perspective of a ten year old girl and I cannot put it down.
