I have just come across this forum and I am overwhelmed to how many people are dealing with so much hurt and confusion in a similar situation to me.

I have been with my boyfriend for 3 years

And he has just been diagnosed with PTSD

He has completely shut me out since finding out, has been ignoring me for over a month now last time he contacted me he told me he felt numb and didn’t want to be around anyone not just me.

He told me not to wait for him and to move on he said the pressure of knowing I am waiting for him is too stressful.

This time last year he did the exact same thing but was still keeping in contact every couple of days.

He has completely isolated himself

I feel so hurt, confused and totally empty.

At first he asked for space, which I respected and gave him that then he contacted me. A week later saying that his read up on this illness and people suffering with it don’t get better etc and he said it was not fair on me and didn’t want to waste anymore of my time.

I love him so much and our relationship we shared prior to this was perfect the first 2 years then a total roller coaster the last year

I have not contacted him at all

But all my stuff is still at his house I don’t know if I should message him to go and collect my stuff so that I can concentrate on moving on and rebuilding my life without him or wait for him to contact me

Any suggestions on how I approach him on getting my things back?

He has made it quiet clear he doesn’t want the relationship anymore he said he doesn’t have the Energy to be in a relationship at the moment

At first I thought this was. A cop out

But after reading everyone’s post on here I have realised it’s all part of the illness

Which confuses me now should I stay or should I go???

I’m so sorry things turned out this way. :(

Yes, go collect your things. Keep it really simple. You could ask him how he would like to return them. Getting your things back isn’t restarting the relationship, so it’s still respectful of his stated need for space.

It’s completely fair to want to get your things back. You can ask him what is the best way for him to get your things and then go from there on what your next steps will be. Sorry your going through all this pain and confusion. Sending support.
