7 minutes. The father and mother pair up making 2 minutes in the tunnel and the son and daughter pair up making 5 minutes. So 2 + 5 = 7. After this i'm stumped. :confused:

They require the torch to get through the tunnel....

9 minutes. Dad takes Mom thru in 2 minutes, comes back alone 1 minute, gives the torch to kids, they go thru 5 minutes, he follows without a torch in 1 minute cause he has been thru twice already. :)

Some are easy, and will be gotten extremely quickly. Some are quite difficult and will challenge you significantly. Just remember, they are a brain teaser, and some require a little thought outside the box.

OMG I hope this is one of the harder ones. KP gives in gracefully and at 5 past midnight heads for another nightmare filled sleep dreaming of families being lost in tunnels.

Afraid Of The Dark

A family of four need to get through a tunnel. It takes the father one minute, the mother 2 minutes, the son 4 minutes and their daughter, 5 minutes. There is only one torch and only two can fit in the tunnel at once.

Remember, you can only travel as fast as the slowest member, you have only one torch, and a maximum of two can fit in the tunnel at any one time.

What is the fastest time you can achieve for them to all get to the other side? Explain your answer!

Father carries daughter who holds the torch = 1 minute
father goes back with torch= 1 minute
father carries mother who holds torch = 1 minute
father goes back again with torch= 1 minute
father carries son who holds torch= 1 minute

total= 5 minutes?

5 minutes as they all walk around the tunnel to the other side. My brain is officially teased I am stumped I guess.
