Can you go back to sleep after having a nightmare?

I used to have wicked nightmares that would wake me up. I couldn't go back to sleep, not because I was afraid to sleep, I was dead tired, just couldn't sleep. After months I could sometimes fall asleep after the first nightmare, but would wake up with a second one. And my immediate vicinity completely trashed.

I had an anemic crisis, and was put on 150-300 of iron daily for several months, and my sleep changed within a couple of weeks. Falling asleep was still an issue, but I stopped waking up with the nightmares. I would have them, and remember them, but wasn't waking up.

Now, still on low dose daily iron, and sleep is still a gong show with 6 hours most nights and a couple with zero hours being a win. I still have nightmares, but I don't remember them clearly, just a residue when I wake up, and I stopped breaking my furniture.
