New Here
I have been having problems sleeping for a long time. When I was a police explorer I witnessed a women die in front of me and there was nothing I could do I was 15 or 16 at the time and have been having nightmares ever since.

I am 29 now and still have this damn nightmare and it won't go away it is starting to make me snap easier and I can't stand that it is making my marriage tense cause even the smallest things make me very angry up to the point I have to walk away and stay away for a while.

I have not been officially diagnosed with PTSD but all the symptoms are spot on. I just want help but can't afford it so I turned to this website to talk about it.

Hey, that's ok. Remember, you can always find a therapist who will record a diagnosis of just 'adjustment disorder' if, from time to time, you feel like you need a little professional help in addition to what you can accomplish on your own, and you need insurance to cover it. Often, before a therapists really can diagnose you, they will just say 'adjustment disorder' which basically means "this guy is going through a tough time and needs help rolling with things." There are lots of helpful books and websites and articles to be found in the forums here too, for you to help yourself.

I'm sorry for your loss. And it is a loss, as clearly this person meant something even in the brief time you knew her. Nobody should have to see that sort of thing at any age, especially someone as young as 15.

Also, though I initially did the same thing, it's not good to self-diagnose. You should try and see a doc if you can, just for that diagnosis at least. I don't know where you work, but alot of workplaces have EAP programs which do include free counseling for traumatic things, even if they happened in the distant past.

And if you're in America there's always the Affordable Care Act, flawed though it may be.

Welcome to the forums man, this place can be great for healing, diagnosed or not. :)

@Duane , I'm sorry you experienced that. I'm a former paramedic, so I get it.

Therapy can help that memory become less intrusive and distressing in your present life, and relief can come sooner than you might think. I hope you'll seek out a trauma therapist for that. Help and healing is possible.

Thank you to everyone for the replies. I will look into everything you guys suggested.

Awesome! For me pegging the diagnosis was huge, and I too figured out my bizzare set of symptoms fit PTSD perfectly. It was a huge relief. There are a lot of us out there, Duane.
