Apparently I should have a carer because I dissociate. Does anyone else here have a carer?

Yes. They are friends, etc, but for a long time I needed someone to watch me 24/7 because of what I would do when a part that seemed hell bent on my self destruction would come out. It was a scary time. I am just trying to decide now if I can head out on my own and be okay.

I saw part of the original posting that you did on the home page. This person who is suggesting this.... is it out of anger/frustration? Can you step back enough to know if her words have any type of depth besides emotional?

Was this said out of concern about things you are doing when you dissociate?

Dissociation is a big spectrum and the level of care needed depends a lot on the level of dissociation being experienced. If the level of dissociation someone is experiencing is putting them at risk, then a carer may be an appropriate suggestion. That said, even if it would be helpful to someone, I doubt that it's an option for many people. I would think that more often if it's dissociation requiring that level of care, inpatient would be more likely offered.

Do you have a diagnosis of a dissociative disorder? - only asking because I think you would struggle to get funding for a carer without one.

I have disassociative PTSD, but I work and don't have constant supervision. However, it does prevent me from taking care of myself by making my own meals sometimes. I forget to eat. If it weren't for my husband, I wouldn't even be here right now.

You don't necessarily need a person to care for you. You need therapy- one. I've found a great trauma therapy place that mainly uses somatic experiencing and sensorimotor processing. They're finding it to be better than CBT in most cases. Finding them is the hard part, though.

Yes thanks, I thought more about it and I really think I don't need one and that it's more - not my fault about the things that were said.

It seems more like it was said out of frustration and the person saying it not having their own coping skills. It was a lot to do with my child parts because having toys etc. Was targeted.

"you're a grown adult" and "you're too sensitive" - those hurt
