I thought... This might be a silly way to think... but I thought Chris Cornell, one of my fave musicians, the lead singer of Soundgarden, was a "survivor" of the 80's/90's grunge era.

Not so. Made it to 52, killed himself. Or OD'd. I am very sad. It makes me think of all the musicians, so many people from many of my favorite bands, absolutely decimated by drug use/suicide OD etc. Painful painful things.

He was part of Temple of the Dog which created one of the best rock albums of all time (imho, and had a whole new band, Audioslave, been successful, touring, shows, all the way up till now.

There are so many little "clever" headlines I can think up from all the music he wrote and produced, so I feel like an idiot for that, too, as this is not the time. I can't help myself from the wordplay and it's just not helpful to have these words swirling around in my mind.

Very sad with this. Trying to stay away from the media but it's so hard. All the "news", disastrous now.

But mainly I thought Chris Cornell literally lived through a deadly era, and he was someone who was able to go on with his work, and have continued success in music... goddamnit all.

Family of Soundgarden's Chris Cornell say he did not intend to kill himself I don't trust the bias in the publication of clinical trials of meds. I discussed SSRIs at length with my endicrinologist and he suggested messing with the HPA or the HPT ( Hypothalmus, Pituitary and adrenals/Thyroids) when you don't really understand the complex interactions and cause and effect is risky. He said there was a very promising anti-obesity drug that worked on one of these and aside from weight loss resulted in a hell of a lot of suicides. It was stopped/recalled. As people with PTSD/anxiety already might suffer suicidal idealation it is harder for coroners to attribute blame to meds even though depression is listed as a side effect of the meds ( how is that ok?). In Chris Cornells case he was on a drug that is contraindicated in Australian guidelines for PTSD but the SSRIs that are used when depression is comorbid with PTSD carry apparently similar risks http://thesandersfirm.com/dangerous-drugs/ssri-antidepressant-lawsuits/ - see mypost re bias in SSRI clinical trial publication and the great news that WHO is requiring global listing and monitoring off all clinical trials not just those that get published ( same forum post a few days earlier)

When an artist dies, their work lives on. That's enough for me. I know death is my neighbor & I want to share a cup of tea without inviting them over. I have no doubt psyche meds opened him up to unusual thinking & left him in the hands of energy he was unable to make friends with. This is the world we live in. May all who die by their own hand, rest in peace & know they are free again.

yes in Chris's case whats done is done but we are here and kickin it - so worth being a bit critical of drug regimes when it comes to deciding to take or not to take . Medical practitioners are typically 17 years behind the research - so this came out this year in Feb- just a review of SSRIs efficacy and adverse outcomes in clinical trials SSRIs: Minimal Effectiveness and High Risk - Mad In America. Also I read somewhere that liability is lost/murky when you take a generic brand - ok so you are dead because of an adverse reaction but if you had a spouse and kids who you supported - may be worth taking original brand for their law suit - just sayin. I had advice from my psych re all above and only my employers insurer was pushing SSRIs- hence my research and decision not to go that way - hypnosis for exercise and postural correction were my surprising breakthroughs in depression. No side effects apart from occassional over exertion. the hypnosis and the standing up straight shoulders back and down made a noticeable difference overnight. I understand about 30% of people who take SSRIs experience a reduction of symptoms in line with a Placebo - but if it is actually a placebo affect - just give me a sugar pill and tell me its a drug that will help. We are all different but many of us are trusting- which is probably easier then second guessing everything.

@ eloc...I won't take chances with my body anymore. I won't even eat any type of food that has been processed! In the 60's I was a lab rat in the days when thorozine was a routine medication for teens who admitted to having used LSD! We were given 1500mg orally a day! If we refused, we were injected. OUCH...I can still feel the burn in my butt!
Is it any wonder we just drooled in group therapy & ended up with massive dental problems as our brains were rewired & we became robots for the next 25 years?!

I remember so many tried to kill themselves with anything they could get. The worst was a perfume bottle that a 14 year old used to rip her arms open. She just kept screaming that she wanted to die. Please, let me die. I will never forget her begging as her blood soaked my face & dripped off my hair. She was never the same again. Arms scarred for life & taken for rapid light therapy in addition to forced injections of who knows what.

I think it's tragic that his wife has put out various press releases; I think the loss is compounded as this continues. It's a fine line, intentional, not, whatever.

Clearly it was someone in a lot of pain.

Beyond that, I don't think this presents a good opportunity to debate drugs, medications, intentions or accidents. It's a tragedy. Sad. Leave it at that. I'm a little sorry I posted on this, but I felt a loss and thought others might, also. That was the intention of this thread. Not to invite such wide-ranging speculation. Please look elsewhere for such convos. Thank you.

It is sad. I remember when Kirk Cobain died in middle school and wanting to 'mock suicide'. Stupid!

It doesn't suprise me a bit as music is art and a form of expression. It doesn't suprise me that so many hurt people are in the industry. Also, fame and drugs goes to together many times. Or hurt people + fame. Sad but true.

I loved Soundgarden too. I will still enjoy their music!

I am sorry that happened to you and it sounds like many others..without all that horror just the obesity epidemic is enough to make me aim for unprocessed.I was 110 kg at the height of my PTSD symptomology up 30 kg during my stressful work period-. Hypnosis stopped me stress eating and I am now down 20 kg. I am fortunate to live somewhere where unprocessed is the norm - stoneground wheat and corn flour, homegrown vegetables. We are in the city but my sister in law sends veg from her garden sometimes pickled- yum, We have a buffalo farm behind us - even in the city - the milk has to come from somewhere
