I'm still looking for my write in candidate.
My last one was Mike Ditka back in the 80's.
He's getting a little too old.
No good role models left.
Maybe it'll be Clint Eastwood this year......but he's old too....
maybe Oprah???

I'd vote for Oprah.

But not in this election. Any votes taken away from Clinton mean more votes for Trump. And we cannot allow that.

Actually he legally purchased the guns.

Yes, he could legally buy guns....because his first wife never reported the domestic violence. Had he been tried for the domestic violence and found guilty, he could not legally have purchased the weapons.

His second wife sounds as if she suffered from the learned helplessness that results from abuse as well.

Yeah, I've really been wondering about his current wife. Like why did she not report this to police, which could have saved 49 lives??? One thing I wonder is if she was brought up in a strict family that taught her to always obey her husband. I just don't know. All I know is that I wouldn't want to be in her shoes. I pray for her and their little kid.

...I support Second Amendment rights. I enjoy recreational shooting. I even have a tattered musket in the garage. But like so many Americans, I recognize that there is no such thing as an absolute right, that your right to buy a military weapon without hindrance, delay or training cannot trump Daniel Barden’s right to see his eighth birthday.

Like so many people in the United States and even more around the world, I can’t fathom why we make it harder to drive a car legally than to purchase a weapon legally...

This is a tough issue. Many of the US mass shooting were by teens who lived with their parents. Muddy water for familial scrutiny. Columbine mom wrote a book recently. Domestic violence connection is different.

Thanks for bringing up the link between domestic violence and mass murder. I was thinking of this as well when this happened. I have also noticed there's a link between mass murder/mass atrocities/randomly shooting innocent people and sex crimes. It seems like it's all connected somehow. I'm not a psychologist but it seems like there's a definite link. Examples: Orlando shooter beat first wife, Zimmerman (who shot Trayvon Martin) beat his ex and had previously been arrested for assault, Boko haram (their whole entire pattern of behavior), cult leaders like jim jones, joseph kony, etc. I think this shows us that we could be using this as a tool to help identify threats and decide how the justice system should treat certain crimes. There's a lot of profiling of arabs and muslims going on. I think it would be a lot more accurate to profile people based on if they've ever committed domestic violence/sex crimes. It seems like that link is a lot stronger and more accurate than race or religion. Also, for those who didn't know - Zimmerman had previously been ordered by a judge to go to anger management but the judge later changed the order to let him stop anger management counseling early because he thought he'd already made good progress. The lesson I take from this is: if someone has done something messed up enough to get legally forced into therapy to modify their behavior we're not doing anyone any favors by letting them quit early. Listen to red flags. Sometimes "leniency" isn't merciful.

I wish his first wife had reported the abuse, it would have made him ineligabile (sp?!) to buy a gun. I w...
Reporting the abuse wouldn't necessarily disqualify him from having or buying guns. My father pulled a gun on my mother while they were traveling. He trapped her in a camper and took off. She managed to speed dial my brother who called the police. They were able to find the pickup camper by the landscape and road markers she told my brother. One pulled over, my father convinced police it was my mom having an issue and he took gun away from her. The police took her to a hotel and allowed the abuser, my father to go. I helped her get home and we had a restraining order placed against him. He has a large gun collection and lots of ammunition. He still drove by her work which was reported. NOTHING was done to prevent him from obtaining or keeping his guns. He refuses to get treatment for his bipolar issues as this might prevent him from future purchases of guns....so....now he is unmedicated, known to easily become angry, and had his own arsenal. No...My mother and I don't feel safe and not anything we can do about it unless he actually shoots someone. I don't propose to know the answer, but think having good therapy without fear of losing his guns might be safer in the long run.

By the way Anthony, my father is a long time contributor to NRA. They did rescend his invite to the national conference after the incident, which infuriated him further toward my mother and me.

@Enaila :hug:.
Tough issues.
I don't have the answers either. Compassion?? Works on some people. Discipline?? Works on some people. Wish we had the answers.
Keep a paper trail and good records. Glad you got an order. Don't be afraid to enforce it.
I hope he gets therapy, mellows, and that you and Mom stay safe.
I'll keep you in my prayers.

Issues with Federal, State and Local laws that are inconsistent and arbitrary. They do not cooperate with each other. Information sharing between Federal agencies example 9/11 NSA, CIA, FBI and the POTUS, Department of Justice did not cooperate with each other. Petty fiefdoms. The Patriot Act to "make us safer" with illegal spying that does not stop domestic massacres. Trillions spent on war abroad about 'terrorists' and not the terror that exists home grown and thriving in our own communities.

Instead of a moment of silence every name should be read out loud. We know the names of the murders, who remembers one name of the recent 49 from Orlando?

Australia reduced gun deaths by 50% with bipartisan support within one year and a decade later the number has not risen. Why is Senate and the House meeting with the NRA as though they are elected officials. I am sick of hand wringing useless politicians. And I'm sick of the representation by elected officials that do not represent what the majority wants.

Buy Smith and Wesson stock, just went up 50%. Does every time there is a mass shooting. The guns on site at Pulse did not stop the murderer. Only later after 49 were dead and 53 injured.
