I am an officer in Arizona and experienced an event a few years ago that has now caught up with me and sunk PTSD into me. I am looking to find out any information surrounding the need and importance of critical incident debriefings after tramatic events. Theres was no post event debriefing. I am finding the benefit of debriefings and that police departments are now using them. Can anyone tell me where I can find out any information about the benefits of debriefings and psychological treatments? Thank you..

Welcome to the forum, Canttellnow. I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with PTSD, but you've come to a great place to learn and interact.

You may find some pertinent information in Dave Grossman's books On Killing and On Combat - it's been a while since I read them, but I found them immensely insightful and helpful. Some of his other works can be found at killology.org - just put the www in front of that. My cop husband (former Phx PD, actually) is also a big fan of Grossman's writing.

My therapist works with local law enforcement agencies, and is a big fan of critical incident debriefing after difficult situations.
