Okay so the first time I ever had a dissociative episode (blackout) was the other day and since then I have been freaked out. I'm just curious has anything bad ever happened to anyone during one?
I mean like have you ever found out later that you weren't safe?
I have had some where I woke up in a different location and many months had gone by. For me, they usually happen when I wasn't safe to begin with, rather than the other way around.
Hi jjh! I don't think Safenow will mind me sharing that she has DID. That is the difference and a totally different kettle of fish. I can't even imagine what that would feel like.
Safenow has a point. I think its much more often a reaction too feeling or being unsafe. And we can start to change that default mode we go into. The ironic thing is that getting very afraid of dissociating is one certain way of ensuring we will dissociate more! ;) The best way out of it is to learn grounding and self awareness, keep control of anxiety levels and train ourselves to feel it is Ok to "do" (action/move) and that we don't need to check out to escape. Fleeing and anger (fighting) are also options.
Oh ok. Yes that is different and I understand more. Well insight is good and that's what I'm asking for. I think the best way to learn more about something is to hear personal experiences. :)
I recently have had an episode where I did. Its put a huge wound on my marriage. It was alot this past august where there is alot I dont remember at all. And I ended up having an affair in it. I get very self destructive. Self harm, suicide attempts, permiscuity. It's hard to lose control over your actions have people tell you that you did things you dont remember. Its very terrifying
