This is Anthony's thread, pretty much, so I'm waiting for that. Pretty interesting to me though the "moral equivalence"... and the US picks up the trash. It will be interesting to see what the take is.

Australia has some of the harshest immigration laws in the world.

Anyone caught trying to immigrate illegally is immediately place in a detention center indefinitely.

That's probably for the best. I don't know about the indefinitely part. I would deport but I don't know of Australia having suicide bombers. Not that I've heard.

The illegal part is rather important.

As to guns. I agree we need to have more strict laws on guns. It won't stop the black market though.

What many Americans and foreigners fail to realize about the propensity for gun violence in the states; it has a tremendous amount to do with race issues and issues of social inequality. We are not that great of a melting pot, we have large numbers of diverse people living side by side and hating each other. Big reason why violence in the US has centers in cities with racial diversity and poverty.

Also Americans think we need our guns to protect ourselves from all those other racial groups as well as our own government. However our police forces have become so militerized from the corporate donations of those supplying our endless war machine that we would need access to rocket launchers and tanks were we ever to actually fight our own government at this point.

Assault rifles- don't care if they enable mass shootings....regulating gun type is portrayed as an assault on gun rights. Most of this is due to the powerful propaganda coming from the gun lobby of the NRA.

Also about half of America thinks one way on this and the other half thinks the other way. Just like everything else in this country. Our government is really good at divide and conquer strategies.

I hate guns, and wouldn't own one. I respect that in the states we have to right to have guns to protect ourselves. I just wish that's all people used guns for, and not the senseless killings that we have.

I have a friend that is married with 3 grown adult children, whom are all in their 20s. Each member of the family own guns, and have permits to carry concealed weapons. They have about 8-10 guns in their home, loaded and on bedside tables. I just can't fathom living like that.

I totally understand why the rest of the world hates the United States. We're arrogant, we stick our nose in where it doesn't belong, we tell other countries how they should live and how they should treat their people. We really need to look at our own. Most of the wars we've been in, in the Mid East was because of oil and our need for it.

I could go on and on, but it really doesn't matter.....

Since Trump elected the hate crimes in the US has risen dramatically. Most chilling is the K-12 school age incidents. The Southern Poverty Law Center has now documented at least 437 incidents of verbal and physical attacks, intimidation and harassment against Muslims, immigrants, African Americans, women and people of color. The most commonly reported place where physical or verbal harassment occurred continues to be in K-12 schools.

I don't know where you live but where I live it's not opposite races killing each other. And I live in a racially diverse neighborhood. Nobody is hating on each other. This cities biggest issues? Gangs and drugs. Period.

@Zoogal I don't think it's just cities that have drugs and gangs, it's everywhere. I live in the Berkshires in western Ma. It's a huge tourist area, with all sorts of well know tourist attractions. But the drugs, gangs, and shootings are becoming commonplace.

I disagree. People are dying left and right because of people making it so danged strong. People are literally shooting up in hospital parking lots for fear of ODing. The traffickers have to pay for what they are doing. THEY HAVE TO.
