Really... a study needs to be done in order to override constitutional rights to firearms for those who are drunks. That seems to be the case, that alcoholics must be studied to ascertain they shouldn't have any rights to firearms in order to decrease gun violence. Seriously?

You could have just asked anyone from a non-gun crazy country to tell you this, without needing to do a study. Alcohol plus Guns = Disaster! Guns, period = Disaster!

I would think that there would already be evidence that alcoholic equals danger/disaster... but that is not in our constitution. The right to bear arms however is. Never fear Anthony... the disarming of America has begun... it has been retermed "subarming" by federal regulatory and executive fiat.

There is plenty of guffawing and snickers to be had when one looks in total at the types of "studies" and "topics" that are being done these days... just the federal government spreading around out tax dollars and fueling the progressive machine.

I did actually snicker myself to think that "Australia" by way of a native son is speaking for the "world". A world in which in certain regions it is perfectly acceptable to hand weapons to children and indoctrinate them to soldiering but hey... by all means laugh at Americans.

Albatross is correct in that the right to bare arms is protected by our constitution, therefore it can't be taken away from a group without factually being studied and deemed constitutional. The law protects individual rights from government control. In other words, the government can't simply deem an individual or group unfit without subsequent research and then proposed laws that are voted on by the senate and congress. A land without laws is no less chaotic than a drunk with a gun. Laugh if you will, however it seems that the immigrant boats continue to come to the land of prosperity for some reason or another... ;)

Yeah, Canada better beef up their boarders... they have (like Australia I might add) very strict immigration policies. Interesting though that you would jump ship to another western country that pays homage to a monarchy.

Our federal government is getting very adept in subverting the constitution and laws already on the books "any which way they can" (obscure reference to the title of a movie comedy featuring an orangutan, Clint Eastwood and Ruth Gordon) . They are past telling us what we can own, have manipulated available ammunition by bulk buying and interfering with the free market more ammo of types than they can or will ever use, now they are trying to mandate a class for every gun owner, attempting to decree that weapons and even sport weapons can not be passed via inheritance, and by fiat picking and choosing both the types of people who can own or possess a lawfully registered gun and also the type of weapon and ammunition we may be allowed to possess.

Thus the new twist on the old theme "subarming" but the end game is disarming America.

I liked your take on disarmament (ooops, sorry, subarming) @The Albatross .

We had the ridiculously expensive Gun Registry here that has been abandoned, or maybe not, or maybe, or maybe not. Seriously. Make a freaking decision. Anyway, it was a huge disaster here. They gave up after having spent billions of dollars attempting to implement it.

Our gun registry targeted (sorry) certain types of guns (long guns (?)). My thought was, if I had nefarious thoughts about how I was to use guns, I sure wouldn't be registering it with the government. lol. The Canadian government is ridiculous. Inept.

Meanwhile the media goes insane hyping up stories so that we will be afraid of gun owners.

Given my background, I would trust a gun owner (registered or not) over the police any day. Not a popular opinion perhaps, but mine, just the same.
