Do You Think Old Threads Should Be Locked?

/me nods in total agreement, I blame Microsoft, Gates really does have a lot to answer for ;)

I agree! At some point the old dead threads need to be closed to responding! I can attest to making this very mistake and it was quickly pointed out to me and realized that I hadn't looked at when it was posted. Archiving things is always a good thing... New information in, out with the obsolete! :)

I don't see the need for a new button :rolleyes: I could just put a link in if necessary or the title of a thread if I didn't know how to post a link. That was my point :). Links are a lot more convenient, I agree, but either is fine to me if someone doesn't know how to do that.

Yes, but you and I are technically astute. Others may find that a little daunting...

This is already in the system, it's called multi-quote. It automatically links to the quoted content when you insert it into a new thread.

I guess I'm falling behind...

Don't get so defensive and take things so personally.

@catjudo

I have PTSD and I'm in the very beginning of my treatment and recovery, which should be obvious by now. I took the frightening risk of reaching out to others and my very first posts were perceived by me to have been critiqued and made an example of. It's true that I am reactionary, and I can take things out of context. It's true that I sometimes take others comments and actions personally, that I'm sensitive, that my emotional responses often interfere with my ability to think critically and objectively. Who with PTSD doesn't experience these things? I reached out, and I got my feelings hurt. I tried to respond to the staff member's comments in a way that would be useful and validating to me, where my initial impulse is to punish myself with self critiscism and abuse. I saw the scenario as an opportunity to practice taking care of and advocating for myself. Is this behavior inappropriate on a PTSD support forum? I'm in no way trying to be combative, cause conflict, or blame anyone. I decided to speak my truth and attempt to care for myself. This experience felt like critiscism and rejection. I'm sick. That's why I'm here.

@Eppi all forums have staff, and staff are here to guide all members. We identify issues and point them out to members so they know the problem, can correct it / look for it next time, and hopefully not make ongoing mistakes or miss things, as was in your case. Nobody picked on you or such, it was simply highlighted to you that you posted on a thread years old. It is up to you to look at dates on content, not staff, and it was merely pointed out to you. You happened to do this when archiving was being looked at, and thus your recent actions were used as an example. You were not used as some negative example, but merely that new members posting on old content happens, and did so recently. It happens a lot, and thus a discussion was in place to curb the issue.
