I've said for a long time we ought to have "None of the above" as an option on the ballot.

I'd be totally comfortable saying that both Washington and Lincoln were human, not saints. They were products of their time. Maybe not totally enlightened by modern standards, but I think they were more good than bad. Washington could have been "King" if he'd wanted to. He walked away from that. From what I've read about Lincoln, he views on things like race evolved. (shrug) I'd be happy to be able to vote for either of them right now.

I actually think John Kerry would have been a good president. I like Elizabeth Warren and hope one day she'll run. I'd vote for Amy Klobuchar too! (Sr. senator from MN)

I appreciate your cordial responses, @Anarchy, as well as that you also think we have some common ground. I also have read a lot on the individuals involved and their actions, particularly Lincoln. And, actually, perhaps the most widely regarded Lincoln scholar in the States lately is David Herbert Donald. Mark Neely is another historian who has contributed a lot to Lincoln studies. I would like to try to read some of your sources for your non mainstream interpretations. Cripes, can't really assure you I can do so yet, but I'd like to have them for future reference if my brain ever really gets in gear again like it used to be.

Has anyone heard any more developments on the Melania speech issue? I've been staying away from the TV because I am as usual sleep deprived and also stressed with other stuff, but would like to know if there are any developments without having to listen to obnoxious hateful people, lol, while waiting for it to come around on MSNBC.

Well. It is official. Trump is the nominee. No longer presumptive. It's hard to see the celebration and joy. It's all expected, but still hard.

Not really my call - after 30 pages, this thread really belongs to the whole community now. :) I'm good with whatever you decide. I do agree with @scout86 that there might be more responses and opinions shared if you started a new thread.

I have no input right now, kinda feeling blah, but this is a great discussion!
