I was in Mexico when the explosions happened. It was so surreal as I was in Los Algodones, which is seven miles away from Yuma, Arizona, and everything in town in walking distance to the US border.
I was having glasses made and I saw the US flag in the distance at half mast and the first thought I had was the someone offed Obama. The dental tourist hotel I was staying at had computers with Internet access and I thought to myself, no, I don't want to know what happened. No, no, no. I'll find out when I cross the border soon enough.
I found out sure enough after crossing as I read the headlines on a newspaper. Gotta say I knew something intense had happened as I have never crossed back into the US with such a high level of scrutiny and so many rapid fire questions slammed at me by Customs to see if my story stayed the same - or so it seemed to me.
Absolutely crazy, but I have to remember that there is good in the world, too, and not very often will good make front page headlines.
