I'm curious. I donate a vast amount of money every month to an organisation that fights child abuse, and I think it is strongly related to the fact that my PTSD was caused by sexual abuse. I know what it's like, so I want to help save the innocent children who have to go through that every day. However, I doubt I would have felt so involved and so strongly wanting to help if I hadn't been traumatised.

How about you? Have you started donating to charity since the first moment that traumatised you? Is the charity related to what happened to you? Or have your donations/your will to donate decreased since your diagnosis?

Not donations but volunteering at every opportunity. Though I don't like doing it at organizations, for me it's the guy stuck on the side of the road or hanging out with those who are homeless and just bullshiting. Giving some sort of help. I don't have to run into them again. And it gives me some sense of pride weather it be false or not.

As an adult, I first began to give to an orphanage since I was in one for a time in my early youth. Then, I joined in the fight to change the laws regarding mental health in the United States, which I'm thankful to say they have changed for the better. Then, I began assisting in the fight against child abuse or spousal abuse. I still give a small amount of funds to various organizations that are in real need, however, I haven't been able to work in many years, so it is not much any longer. Even though I can't give money, I still give of my time and efforts as my health permits.

I hope this answered your question. I believe that even those who haven't been traumatized give because it is part of who they are.

Well, my trauma started in early childhood. There is no before. I put that yes I donate a lot because there wasn't an option for me. :)

My level of donation changed more with my marriage to someone who made a lot of money. I believe in rich people giving back. I'm a rich person now. I give a lot of money. My needs are more than adequately met. If I kept the balance I would feel like a piece of $h!t. So I give it away. My husband is ok with this given that I pay double the mortgage every month so that he can retire early. :)

Yeah, I don't donate either but I have done some volunteering work with kids. I see I'm the only vote so far for the last option. I'm just really sceptical about whether it helps (other people's donations never helped me when I was in the traumatic situation). I like to see where my effort is going. Otherwise I just don't trust it.

I donate far less to churches than I did before my diagnosis, but then again, I am in a much LOWER income bracket now than I used to be!

I did not answer the survey, as nothing really fit my situation, but I think it is a good thing to look at and thanks for your donations to a worthy cause!

I give whenever I can. Donations to various charity thrift stores, growing vegetables as a fundraiser for church outreach programs, etc. I am financially strapped so I can't give much $$$, but I feel it's important to give what I can, when I can.

I donate to more animal-charities than before. Before I was more slow and generally had an attitude like "I'll fill that in on a later note." And sometimes 'later' would never come. Now when I see a flyer or whatever asking for a donation for animals I practically jump at it right away and during the past 2 years especially I've signed up for many donations for animals in need.
