I'll start with a list since I'm not sure how to phrase any of this. I am 26 years old. I'm from the United States. I live with my boyfriend, dog, cat, parakeets and Betta fish. I have Asperger's syndrome(officially diagnosed). I'm not officially diagnosed with PTSD but, I'm gonna go ahead and self label myself since from what I've read it fits me perfectly. My current boyfriend is really great, but before I met him I dated someone else for 5 months, and that guy is a sociopath and wannabe cult leader. I'm gonna leave it at that right now because it's really difficult thinking about him and everything that happened with him.

@Eedara welcome to the forum. I say this all the time but still stand by my words. You could not have stumbled on or found a better place to come when not in therapy session, there is usually always someone here to help you in whatever way they can. You will not be judged ever. Come here with successes or failures, or just to rant or vent.

Many users of this forum will either have been through the same as you or very similar.

Hi and welcome!

Please seek out professional help to get an accurate assessment as it's impossible to be objective about our own symptoms and self diagnose. That is, it wouldn't be very helpful to label yourself with PTSD if that's not what you have.

I appear to have erred, My apologies for any mis-confusions. As @Solara rightly replies, we as sufferers are 'not' professionals and none of us can profess to be able to diagnose others conditions, likewise none of us can 'self-diagnose'.

You really do need to seek out an official diagnosis. This may well be a very hard step for you to take but it really is crucial if you do in fact suffer like many of us on the forum with either PTSD or C-PTSD.

I would encourage you to speak with your family Doctor about a referral to a psychotherapist or similar for a formal assessment and official diagnosis.

(C) - PTSD is a damaging condition if not handled correctly and none of us on this forum would want to mislead you in any way whatsoever. That is not to say we would not be more than willing to chat or reply to threads as an 'undiagnosed' user as you are at the moment.

Personally I wish you every success in your journey with dealing with whatever trauma's you have suffered before finding the forum.

I debated lying, since I thought people would say that, but I thought better of it in favor of honesty. I really hope people don't badger me for an official diagnosis, I've had enough professionals handing me lists of things that are potentially wrong with me, only to admit they are wrong and simply hadn't thought of my true issue(I have autism, but was only diagnosed at age 18.) Forgive me if an entire childhood of being told something is drastically wrong with me has sullied me against publicly admitting(offline) that I'm more of freak than anyone could imagine. My ex may have been the one to spark the symptoms of ptsd that I suffer but he had a pretty good canvas to start with. I really hope this site can be a place of understanding and acceptance because I'm already tired of defending myself in this way. Perhaps someday I'll get a diagnosis, but right now I'm a long ways off from that.

Hi Eedara,

Welcome to the forum!

It isn't uncommon for the "professionals" to misdiagnose and I think as you read you will find that many members here have been labeled with a variety of disorders when in fact is was PTSD. Members here aren't trying to badger anyone into getting a diagnosis as that is a totally individual decision. Trauma therapy can be so effective and improve the quality of a persons life, that is why people are encouraged to get a diagnosis. However, there is a lot of information and self-help articles, posts and threads that can really assist a person with managing their symptoms.

I hope you find this site helpful.
