New Here
Hi everyone. I've been on this site for a while but haven't had the courage to post much until now. Here goes:

Though technically I've never been diagnosed with it, I've suspected I've had PTSD for years.
Condensed version of my issues:
Lots of emotional abuse/neglect, some physical and sexual abuse, witnessing domestic violence, widespread family history of suicide and suicidal ideation/attempts - some of which were threatened, some I witnessed, most of which happened in a 2-3 year period.
When I was a teen, I was hospitalized a few times and sent to a Residental Treatment Center for 10 months. When I got out I was ok for several years. Due to many stressors, including my Dad's suicide last year (which brought up a LOT of old stuff), I took a dive. After struggling with my addictions (self-harm, substance abuse) for months, I decided to get back into therapy. I spent 6 months with an intern at my University, but she had to leave. I've recently started seeing a new T (she has lots of experience with PTSD and DBT) so hopefully it proves to be a good fit.

Welcome to the forum; I am glad you decided to join, and introduce yourself. We are a broad collection of people from all over the world, and all walks of life, but we all share on thing in common: trauma.
So, feel free to read, to write, and join in on the discussions that interest you.
You will find a great network of friends and support here.

Something to consider is starting your own trauma diary; a place where you can write about how you feel, what you are thinking, and how you are dealing with the trauma related issues in your life. Yes, the trauma diary is open for others to read, but it gives us the opportunity to get to know you, and offer encouragement.

@Flashlight14 Welcome to the forum!

It is good that you have a therapist that specializes in trauma and its treatment. Whether or not you are diagnosed with PTSD, the things that you have experienced and the negative impact they have on your day to day life can be lessened with therapy.

I hope you find the information and support here beneficial to your healing.

Well done for sharing! I'm so glad you did. It does sound like PTSD any similar experience that you can make a link to the old experience will bring back memories and feelings. I hope things with your new therapist works out well.
