New Here
Hi,

My name is Bec and I have recently been diagnosed with PTSD whilst attending a chronic pain management course for young adults (I'm 18). 3 years ago I had scoliosis surgery due to having Marfans syndrome. Here there was a lack of understanding of my condition and how my nervous system experiences pain. I was treated badly, left in agony, and was basically neglected. I was 16 at the time.

Since then I have 4 different flashbacks, become anxious and have found it very difficult to adapt to normal life. When attending the pain management course I had a lot of flashbacks which brought the condition to their attention. I always see the rooms I was in when in hospital and I can go into the flashbacks at any point. Usually I have triggers such as people talking, sudden noises, beeps etc..

Anyway I must stop now as I am going on but thanks for reading

hi Bec,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. I have chronic pain and PTSD, but not from a surgical procedure. I've had a couple of weird things from surgery. One was when they took out my eye and put it on my cheek and I could still see with it. Now that was weird. My PTSD is from multiple traumas over my life time.

I'm really sorry you had that happen to you at such a tender age. Being treated badly by the medical profession really sucks. I almost lost my leg one time. A doctor forgot he had put a tourniquet high up on my leg. Due to the results of that, they had to go back in and it took much longer to heal. He lost his license and ended up being an owner of a book store. I ended up with a lot of metal pins in my foot. sigh.

I really enjoyed the pain management courses I took. But since your trauma was was with certain sounds and those are used, I can see how that must have affected you. Bless your heart.

I hope your therapist can help you to process those memories, so they won't be so hard on you in the future.

You will find lots of wonderful, caring people here, as well as a lot of good information. Nice to meet you.

I was also diagnosed with PTSD while attending a chronic pain course. I had back surgery and the pain continued to get worse. My PTSD is from complex trauma. This website has been really helpful for me, and I've come so far in over a year. I hope you find it as informative and supportive as I have!

Thanks everyone. This forum sounds really nice.

I have only just got back from hospital and they said I will start treatment with someone soon. I'm just nervous about going back to college. I haven't been for 5 weeks now and am worried this will start a flashback. I am going to talk to my tutor about ptsd and hope that they understand.

Welcome to this forum I too have scoliosis and have had the surgery, I am a victim of a wrong diagnosis so this delayed treatment so because of this am now in constant pain, PTSD was part that and part something sinister but this site is a nice place as we can all know what the other is feeling, again welcome!
