what do i do, my husband constantly retreats into his ps3 games he says they help to calm him, in the meantime he ignores the family, what can we do or should we do anything about this?

I think this is one of those things that don't have an easy answer... Games can become really addicting. Does he sees it as a problem?

It's about escapism....that's why it is relaxing.

As to it being a problem....while I have read lots of sufferers say they feel better for it first hand experience has shown me that they can become quite cranky and anti-social from it. Moderation is the key to everything.

The other important factor is for hubby to work out why he is needing to isolate and escape so much. What is triggering him or what is he avoiding dealing with as it is too much for him?

With greater stress, the more detached he becomes. He sees video games as an escape from reality (suffering), and thus easier for him to cope with stress. Give him time, but continue to support him and show him love, and he eventually will respond.

Sometimes you need to zone on something unrelated to escape the pain. Try not to take it personel. Maybe help him move to some of the things that made him really happy in the past. Try sharing in those things that made him happy. Time and effort, time and effort :)

Anything is fine in moderation, though if it affects the family and relationships, then it obviously isn't fine after all and requires direct discussion between the two people concerned to find a medium ground / compromise. That's really what a relationship is... a constant compromise of give and take so that all concerned are happy and the relationship is healthy.
