I've Imprinted A Very Personal Bit Of My Journal Onto My Coffee Table

Mineral Spirits may damage the the finish. I don't know the size of the ink but I would try covering it with a doily until you can find a way to remove it. If none of the suggestions works I would find someone to sand it down and revarnish it the same shade that it was.

There's something called "WD40" - I don't know if you have it in the UK? It's used for things like squeaky door hinges, and of course engines - it's a metal lubricant. Now I know it sounds like a funny thing to use but it has really saved me before! My 2yr old (at the time) drew on a wall with permanent marker (he was quick that one), and it was the day before we had to move out! Somebody told me WD40, and it took it straight off! I wonder if it might be worth a go.

If it's natural wood rather than partical board or something, and you want to try the nail polish remover method, don't use one that contains acetone unless you want to refinish the table after. (Not really sure if a non-acetone remover would work anyway, so maybe just no polish remover.) I've spilled acetone on wood floors before and it ruins the finish pretty quickly.

I love all these suggestions! Thank you.

The only things suggested that I already have in the house are an eraser, WD40, baking soda, toothpaste and bleach.

I'm going to try them in that order. I'm particularly intrigued by the WD40 idea and it might get me to oil the windows at the same time, which is overdue.

I'll try tomorrow and report back.

But curious if what you wrote that was transferred before you was particularly meaningful to you.

Good spot. This actually passed me by, since I was so wrapped up in staring disconsolately at what I'd done. It was very personal and the last thing I would want people to know about me. It made me feel like my biggest secret was exposed to the world. Interesting...

When I saw the thread I thought you had done it on purpose!

:roflmao:

Like an act of activism and self-expression? lol

Hey, what an idea though. I could cover vintage tables with my journal writings, call it art furniture and sell them!

I once burned "Will knit for beer" onto the office printer (can't remember how though) and as a result everything printed (this was at a uni law school) for the next hour came out with that on it.

:D:p:D

As a teenager, I borrowed someone's ironing board to make a grunge T-shirt with fabric paint. I got mixed up and ironed one thing onto the cover of the ironing board instead. It said "DROP DEAD" and it never came off. They just continued to use their ironing board with that on it.
