(((NH))) so sorry to hear about your father, you sure didn't need more stressors at this moment. I guess you surgery may be postponed, let us know. Candle burning for you.

Nighthawk,
As you know, I had mine in NY. There is an incredible in patient rehab center down the road a ways that they refer patients to. I did not go bc I only had one knee done and I had no other health issues so I rented an apartment there and stayed a month. I will PM you my doctors name. The draw back is the expense. I had at least 3 trips there before the surgery and then follow ups after. Plus I had the expense of staying there afterwards but it sounds like your insurance will pay for rehab.
The pluses of going is that they are the number one ortho hospital in the world. They are connected to NY Presbyterian so if you have another health issue, they roll you thru a door and boom, there is Dr Oz. The other benefits are obvious, you have the quadriceps sparing surgery in which the recovery is cut in half and the products they use actually fit your bone structure. I am small framed and was scared that I would have a knee the size of a linebacker if I had mine done locally. You cannot even tell I had a knee replacement except I have a scar but when I tell people what I had done they always comment about how normal it looks.

I am NOT trying to guide you to that direction bc it sounds like you really need one and I can tell you it is a longer process to get it going when you go to NYC. I waited 9 months for an appointment with the guy I used to initially see him then he could have scheduled me for surgery as early ad 2 months following that but I opted to wait til after the first of the year. You are correct that you need to have the very best results possible here. This is not anything to screw around with for sure bc a bad result can be as painful. Check your doctor out thoroughly and talk to people who have used him and their experiences.

Here is ONE more option. In Chicago, the doc that invented the quadricep sparring surgery, Dr Charles Berman, does knee replacement as a day surgery. Yes, I said day surgery. You spend the night in a center next to the hospital and they see you the next day and you go home. You, however, could go to a rehab facility close to there. I was too chicken to go that route but I knew a guy who did and he did just fine.

YOU can do this!!! I can only tell you that it changed my life and I went from being in pain all day and night to being TOTALLY pain free. I play soccer with my son! I am sending you strength and hugs and the mindset to discover what is good for YOU! Decisions are always hard to make but when there is so much turmoil going on around you, it seems as if it becomes daunting.

It seems I made some progress with the hospital and rehab department. I am not overly happy about being stuck in a hospital that long. I also know that it will be a better process for me to do. My doctor only does knees and hips. He has done several athletes and is as good as it gets.

As far as my father goes my brother is going to board a plane in 2 weeks and go see him.

Today was my pre op physical and I was just fine till I got there.:meh: The thought of being poked and prodded is not my friend. I ended up getting very agitated. Good news is my BP is down so I am with out a doubt working my way off another medication.:D Well when it came to the blood work even the nurse was a bit concerned about my anxiety. I find it strange but it seems like I am inspirational to people I am unaware of. The nurse commented that she was surprised that I was not a drug addict with the pain I am in. The other day someone commented about my personalty and my drive to get functional everyday as an amazing thing. I don'y get it or believe it. The thing is I am starting to hear it.

I have an abundance of people supporting me that I did not even know existed and for now i'll try to hear their kind words and not judge them or there reason for saying or supporting in the weird ways they are. Ok yes not very trust worthy. I am fighting for my mobility physically and mentally. I am a big baby and feel like I am taking up peoples mind space to get me to the table. This person is evolving and I am not quit sure who she is.

I can associate with the evolving issue NH.

We are butterfly's struggling out of our chrysalis. When life throws something else at us it is difficult to deal with because we are already dealing with getting to know our true and new self.

It is a strange thing when we see ourselves as a PTSD sufferer with all our junk and other ailments and yet there are others who wonder how on earth we cope. How could we be inspirational to others? And yet we are! We endure and the endurance makes us strong, even when we think we are weak.

You are doing tremendously well!

Is it possible to print off all the positive and encouraging things this thread and take them with you to hospital - to give you support before you go to theater? Just a thought.

Sending you hugs and love.

Holy *&^%$$# I don't think I am dealing with this well. What part of I need this but don't want this does no one hear

I think if we didn't feel nervous and worried we wouldn't be human. Courage isn't the absence of fear it is facing the fear. As John Wayne once said..'Courage is being frightened but saddling up anyway.'

I guess as KP said it is...breathe. Ground. Practice what we have learned.

I am with you all the way wonderful NH. Hand in there friend.

(Crafty Cath is now going to read what she just wrote and take a dose of her own medicine...)
