Knee Replacement Surgery

Sweet (((NH))),

I know that I may not have seemed to be around lately, but I was following things as closely as I could. And you do know that I available in PC or email to you (assuming I have wifi) whenever you need/want me.

I would like to ask you to do me two favors:

1) Please reread BigBear's posts about PT ending while recovery continues, and to celebrate those seemingly small but very significant progress milestones. (BB your posts were realistic but encouraging so please continue to contribute - your voice is worth hearing)

2) Please take another moment to reread your own posts and notice all the progress, physically and emotionally, that you have made since surgery. I know it may feel like a very long time, but really has not been that long considering the procedure.

I had to be intubated last Thursday and the a*sholes (sorry) in here are literally taking both my phone and iTouch away for hours at a time. So I would like to say more but really just want you to see that YOU ARE INDEED RECOVERING AND YOU WILL GET TO GO HOME, just never as fast as you would want!

Also you are always in my thoughts wherever I am. Be strong so you can live long and with much more freedom. You are gaining ground even if it does not feel that way.

This is Chincoteague, Va National Wildlife Refuge and one of my favorite places to relax. Hope you might imagine yourself sitting there with me as I play with my camera?

It is an island along the coast where wild ponies run free. They all look pregnant because they had to adapt to the mix of saltwater and fresh water (brackish water). It kind of reminds me of how you will "run free" in time as well.

Do not get discouraged. Just keep taking it one day at a time. Be kind to yourself. Be as patient as you can with your healing. And please forgive me for this is certainly not one of my better posts.

With you and cheering you on when the road ahead feels impossible,
Alex

Something that helps is sitting on the edge of your bed with a towel on the floor. With your flat foot, "mop" the floor extending out then back and "under" the bed (or a chair, chairs work too). As mobility increases... it makes the rehab easier. My rehab patients got a lot of progress with this, but it drove the nurses crazy because they were always trying to pick up the wash cloth or towel thinking it was just thrown on the floor. They'd have to hit their call lights and ask for another one. The looser it gets, and the farther under your chair, the better off you'll be NH.
