Hi!

I just joined this forum; happy to see one dedicated to PTSD, this is great.

I joined specifically to see if there is support for myself - the partner of someone with PTSD and specially someone who just served in Iraq. Myself and some other women are on another forum that is for partners/wives of soldiers, a general 'talk about anything' forum, which is great. It's a great group but we want to find a forum that is a specific place to talk about
A) the trauma of war that WE experience - vicarious trauma - and
B) to talk about what we're dealing with in relation to our men who have just redeployed and who show signs of PTSD, something we're not sure how to handle, or process, for ourselves.
C) We also want to understand what they are going through.

So far, I've only found two forums on the internet where there is discussion available to partners of those suffering from PTSD... this is one, but i see more of the site seems to be directed to those who suffer.. is that correct?

So my question to you all is - should I direct the women to this site or is there another site you would recommend that is more suited to what we're looking for?

would love to hear your thoughts...

Thank you
Kristin

Hi Kristin

Welcome to the forum....and the carer's section.

more of the site seems to be directed to those who suffer.. is that correct?

This site was developed for those who have PTSD but also for those who care for the sufferers of PTSD. It seems the sufferers dramatically outweigh the carers so I guess you can perceive that it is mainly for sufferers. There is nothing stopping carers having a greater presence other than the carers themselves.

As a lot of sufferers do not work due to their illness they therefore are more likely to have more time to spend on the forum. For me June - Aug is the busiest time of the year work wise so I don't have much spare time to invest in the forum.

So my question to you all is - should I direct the women to this site or is there another site you would recommend that is more suited to what we're looking for?

I think only you can answer this question for yourself Kristin but you and the other women are most welcome here. The forum is what you make it so if more carers join there is likely to be a greater presence and a wider scope of people to share their experiences for the greater good of all.

It is hoped you stick around and find out for yourself this can be a very helpful place for both sufferers and carers.

Can anyone tell me if there many carers on here that are associated with vets of Iraq/afgh war?

other question - similar to one I asked before but I don't think was understood so I'll rephrase: do you know of any other support forums for carers (related to PTSD)? War vets are the concern and topic that I'm looking for, as well.

thank you
kristin

Can't speak for anyone else but Anthony (my partner - forum owner) is a vet but not with those wars....

Don't know of any sorry but have never gone looking.

I'm here for the same reason you are: I'm looking for somewhere to talk about what I experience as my husband (and I) try to work through the changes that have taken place in our lives since his post-deployment diagnosis of PTSD. It's also nice to think that there might be someone to talk to, as well, because I don't feel like I can share this with my friends and family. But, honestly, now I don't think it's necessary to find a forum dedicated to PTSD related to OIF/OEF; after having read through several of the posts here, most of the carer's experiences and concerns seem to be along the same lines as the ones I'm going through now. I haven't posted before, just read the ones that are already here, but even that has made me feel like I'm not alone, that it's not just me that's feeling this way, and that it's not just my soldier who's having the difficulties he's having. I guess what I'm saying is that, with so few support resources (that I've found) for carers of PTSD sufferers, I'm just happy to have found a forum that lets carers discuss their side of the illness, even if it isn't specifically dedicated to war vets.

Hello Flaming rock...
nice to meet you. I have found some helpful information on here as well. still, it's nice to know someone can relate to my stories.. or situation.. waiting for 15 long months for a soldier to come home is not an experience many can share with me, and so i feel isolated in this experience. So that's one reason I'm happy to meet you and hope to meet others who can relate.
in the meantime, I continue to gain from all the information and discussions on here, as well.
again, welcome! :)

Special K:

I recently became a carer for an Operation Iraqi Freedom Vet. I am new to dealing with the PTSD Disorder. So any advice or info that you can let me know about would be great.

Thank You!

Special K,

I am married (5 years this past May) to a Vet of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I am lost and seeking direction as well. Maybe just a shoulder to cry on. I am here if you need the same.
