@Ayesha maybe you know it better by it's brand name Remeron (or Avanza)
I had a similar response to 30mg Mirtazapine, very little to no change for me except for a slight reduction in nightmares (though not wake-ups). My biggest fear was that if it was working and I was this down with it, I definitely wouldn't be able to cope without it. Previously I had ended up staying on a medication that didn't help because it didn't make things worse either, but I was tired of nothing working. At the end of the day you deserve to be happy and if you need medication, it should be one that actually works. I'd recommend talking to your psychiatrist and voicing your concerns both about this medication and coming off of it to start a new one.
In my case, my Psychiatrist started changing me onto Duloxetine initially without tapering off of the Mirtazapine and boy am I glad he did, it seemed to correct the Mirtazapine and me all at once, for the first time since I was a kid I didn't feel so worn down and broken by the world. When I started to remove the Mirtazapine, I became shakier, the nightmares came back in full force and my mood plummeted. So after protesting that the Mirtazapine hadn't worked I ended up staying on both the old and the new medication, certainly not what I expected but it's amazing to feel this way :) although the nightmares are still here (but that's nothing new). Also, amusingly it's a combination that's known as Limerick Rocket Fuel!
I'm not recommending this for you or suggesting you will have the same treatment, my story is only there to give and example of a work around that worked for both me and my psych doc as I never had to be medless. I'm sure there are others, talk to your doc and see. Good Luck!
