My Computer Has Been Acting up, So if I should disappear for awhile, don't be alarmed, just pray for me and that I can get a new one soon. This one is so old that it runs on XP, so as you can imagine, it is time to get a newer model. Also, the ones at our local library still run on IE 8, so there is no help there!

I have been saving up some small amount of funds, but saving when one is on Social Security Di$ability here in the US is not easy, especially when one has no pension nor any other income. Please pray that this old clunker holds up until I get enough funds to replace it (or wish me luck if you don't pray!). Next month I shall go to Walmart and price computer towers. It may be less than I suppose, who knows... I may be able to buy one soon. Thanks.

It is working OK for now again (keeping fingers crossed here), it just "stutters" sometimes, is the best way I can describe it. And the other day, when I let it sleep for a bit while I ate lunch, etc., when I returned, moving my mouse would not restart it. So I had to shut it off without doing the ending program.... Then it stalled on the way through it's start program next time I started it, but finally coughed its way on through.

So far, I have not been letting it sleep anymore, nor have I been asking it to do more than it seems capable of. (No more videos, it has had troubles with those for awhile; the last one I let it view was on this Forum, but I will give it a break now).

Please, everyone, just pray that it holds out until I can afford to buy a new one or a new tower, whichever is less expensive!

It is very old, so I won't make any attempt to fix it if it does go. And unfortunately, I don't have the funds for a new one. Pray for this old thing, will you?!?

I guess I call that defragmentation, but yes, I do, like once every few weeks.

Ha these auto typers drive me. Yes you have the correct word! I would recommend once a week at least.

XP systems do not have the memory capacity to store up, and run all the Megabytes it requires to be on the Internet. It is also good to set your Internet Options to dump the Cache every day.

Then it won't growl so much:). Office Max has some really good buys on towers too! I am not sure if you have Fry's store there, they run some pretty tough competition. Good Luck!

The last time I checked defrag, it said that this volume did not need it (my C: drive). However, I shall try to check it once per week then, thanks for the advice.

I'm dirt poor, I mean, really unable to afford ANY computer right now. I bought this one for $60 U.S. funds. That was last summer sometime. How I scraped up that $$$ was a miracle in and of itself....

Was that a private deal were you got your computor ? When mine died on me last Feburary, I too had to scrap up cents and dollars as I am on Invalidie Funds which is equivalent to Social security. But I found a small business that does repairs and sells used remodeled computors. I got mine for a sweet price with inclusion of programs and the recuperation of all my files and documents. The whole thing for 150$ and it works as a charm. Hope you can get as lucky as me, but I know it takes time to scrap up the money - good thing that there are food banks to help during those rough months.

Yes, I got a similar deal, but my computer was the only one the guy had available and it is very old. It seems to be chugging along a bit better now, though it has its moments sometimes. Like this morning, it took longer than usual to start up. It may have been loading updates though, so that I don't mind at all, as they seem to help it. Thanks for your thoughts, Froggie.
