At present I'm still testing the new ad server, so things will chop and change over the next week. I will progressively introduce the new ad positions, and ads will continuously be added, starting with health based inventory and expanding. I will test some others within it as I go.
Once the ad system is steady and running, I will release a public ad page here where individuals and companies can purchase ads direct, themselves, by requesting to be added to the advertiser group, allowing them access to the ad statistics for positions, to purchase ads and monitor their ads.
Previous statements about not clicking ads is now irrelevant, as the new model is not cost per click, and instead is cost per action, which means we make no money unless an action occurs at the target website, i.e. a purchase or such action that the advertiser has established.
So curiosity has no impact upon MyPTSD now, and members and users can click on anything they want without consequence to MyPTSD. Even paid advertisers, they will submit their ads on a cost per impression / cost per period basis, so whether you click their ads or not doesn't affect their cost of advertising here.
This was one of the biggest issues with Googles model... in that they automatically determined what was a relevant click, what wasn't, whether mistakes were made or not, and they could ban us at any given time. This is no longer an issue. There were other issues also, with ad quantity restrictions, none of which affect us now.
I can now better place ads based on what fits with the site, use all pages without restriction, test areas and adjust as performance requires. All the ads are now fully responsive without any complicated javascript behind the scenes. They will respond between portrait and landscape instantly, without refreshing the page. The system is better, albeit more work.
Right now I'm looking at Health based subjects, as they had the largest impact for revenue here in those short months of using Adsense. I will be able to obtain more valid statistics over a 6 - 12 month period of what works here, what doesn't, and the ads will be adjusted to suit, obviously, pushing popular revenues to the top placements, lower earners / possible deletions to the lesser performing slots.
It will take approximately a week or two just to get health based ads listed. Once done, our largest demographics here is women, thus appropriate ads based on women will be next, such as family and beauty. I will then test further categories purely for interest and reaction, and add or subtract as performance requirements.
Fingers crossed, hopefully this system becomes the ultimate option I was hoping it would... more just I'm doing it sooner than I expected, or had planned the time for. It will take a good six months for this system to show me any kind of steady results, so at this time I have zero intention of changing the donation amount. If the ads surpass any expectation of mine, then I will obviously adjust the donation amount down instantly. The way the ads are based are better, yet gives me far less accurate information to base any financial status for this site upon without longevity results to see peaks and troughs.
